Speculate wildly about what Charlotte Dujardin did to that POOR HORSE.

Video at the top, she whipped that poor thing as onlookers laughed.

Don’t get your hopes up about Discovery+. The commentary was terrible last time.

But yes, a necessity compared to the crumbs the BBC get.

she's not getting her damehood now either. GOOD!

I don't get it. how do you get into this sport and go far if you have such a disregard for the welfare of the animal?

And are we expected to believe that she hasn't used that method before nor since?

Yeah, that doesn’t look like “an error of judgement” either. Looks entirely comfortable in doing it like it’s something quite regular.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is widespread cruelty throughout the sport. Horses don't naturally act or behave the way they are expected to in dressage.

Personally I think this as good a time as ever to acknowledge that the horse sports don't belong in the Olympics because the horses do all the work. Just a thinly veiled way to give medals to toffs who aren't good enough to pursue rowing.

Princess Margaret to apologise on screen.

I didn’t realise Discovery+ were showing stuff. It’s a shame I missed the Argentina-Morocco football match in which it was suspended for an hour after fans invaded the pitch, after which an Argentina equaliser was ruled out :D:disco:

Impressive turn outs for the Rugby 7’s and football group games already

It’s just the boring preliminary’s.

All the gay sports start on Saturday.

No. Long live the swim shoot sword run horse lottery event.

(Until they replace the horse lottery with Ninja Warrior in 2028).

Isn’t the opening ceremony just some BOATS ALONG THE SEINE anyway? :D

I'm excited for the Opening Ceremony, though the 'it's all along the Seine rather than in a stadium' approach feels a little risky

After the Japanese, surprisingly, fucked their ceremonies (and I'm not sure covid was ENTIRELY TO BLAME) we are overdue something BRILLIANT. And I hope the new approach won't rob me of the traditional really-fucking-long-flag parade

Well I’ll be out on Friday so I hope it’s SHIT.

Re: the BBC rights thing - I plumped for a Discovery subscription last time and it was APPALLING. The tech, interface and presentation were way below what the BBC had offered 9 years before at 2012, so I basically still watched 95% of the Tokyo games on the beeb.

I expect I'll still get a subscription again out of curiosity / for emergency diving action, but I really hope the WOKE LABOUR GOVERNMENT will help wrangle some new better deal for future games

This article is interesting enough https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/cjk3vkpxz1po

The gymnastics tends to get wall-to-wall BBC coverage and that's REALLY what Olympics season is all about

Discovery is worth it for full coverage of the MALE WATERPOLO and it's AGGRESSIVE HOMOEROTICISM.

The BBC ain’t ever getting back full Olympic coverage. It’s gone pay per view and they won’t justify that level of cost for a licence payer.

Discovery+ is a necessary evil now. Last time it really wasn’t much cop and I can’t see it being way better. They just don’t have the background experience in doing it. I guess we’ll see. I’ve signed up anyway.

The revelation of the 2012 live events for me. My friend Kate and I went and after a boozy lunch were a few minutes late. We walked in, we slightly drunkenly joked around with our usherette (you know what I mean) and she commented that the view was lovely or some such thing. We then replied we weren’t there just for the men and it was really annoying that people thought proper sports fans like us would ever do such a thing, or some bollocks.

Cue sixty seconds after we sit down and utter AGOG silence staring at what was on display and Kate simply deadpanning, “pass us those binoculars from your bag, will you, love” :D

Also, the experience made me decide I wanted to do water polo. I’m an excellent swimmer and thought it would be up my street. Googled “Portsmouth water polo team”, found a team which looked inclusive, lots of body types in their picture, etc etc.

A week later, googled them again, found a phone number, called and arranged to go in for a trial…

…to find everyone was young, fit and buff and fat old me waddled about trying and failing to fit in. Turned out the first website I’d seen was local to Portsmouth…in America :D

Needless to say, I didn’t return :(

I’m reminded why 3 years ago I hated the coverage here in the 🇺🇸

Spot the difference;

Even worse, the broadcast I just watched had USA in “joint first” 😂 - they really have no shame!

Also enjoying how many of the out LGBTQ+ athletes at the games are LESBIANS, HAROLD

Came across this summary of which NOCs might win their first ever medal at these games which I found pretty interesting:

I always enjoy the first time medals (not least last time's insanity of San Marino winning not only their first but *3* medals in one go), although it feels a bit  that Albania's best chances seem to be through Russian athletes that have switched allegiances
