Queen Elizabeth II DEAD (1 Viewer)

Is The Emoji Movie worth watching on catch up? Could we get the figures up there with the funeral if we all watch it within seven days?

The only reason I remember it is because they weren't allowed to show Di's funeral in '97 and put on the cheapest, bought in cartoons they had in the cupboard because they knew they were completely wasting their time.

As a 14 year old getting up for his Sunday Morning paperround on the morning of her demise, I was greeted by an alarm clock of solemn music and went to watch TV for a bit. The first four channels were all breaking news, so treated myself to a bit of C5 Dappledown Farm.

That’s my exact memory too! Now Wikipedia says Dappledown Farm only started on C5 in 1998 but that’s just wrong.

My Mother had a marvellous Meghan Markle faux pas yesterday.

Her: I thought Meghan Markle looked lovely. And you could see her welling up- the queen obviously meant a lot to her. All these people who moan about her are racist. I love her, even if she is black.
Me: Er, Mum, that last bit of the senten...
Her: (quickly trying to correct herself) I mean, I love her because she's black
Me: MUM!
Her: I DIDN'T MEAN IT THAT WAY, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

:D

My mum says that kind of shit all the time. She posted ALL LIVES MATTER on FB, which in her mind was lovely and inclusive. She was horrified when I explained.

My Mum is vehemently anti- racist. Or at least she THINKS she is/ WANTS to be. She just increasingly gets things a bit wrong nowadays.

My mum certainly thinks she is.

And she probably is, at least compared to other people like her who voted National Front in the 70s.

Oh my Mum generally is fairly left wing, she just stupidly has got to the age where she believes things in the papers. Thankfully she reads the Daily Mirror nowadays.

It's a minefield for their generation, if they're well meaning, but aren't caught up with all the correct terminology.

Mine went through a brief stage of sharing "SHARE THIS IF YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY" posts from Britain First and one instance of "LET'S SEE HOW FAR THIS GOLLIWOG CAN GO". The minute I told her the significance and what it's all about, she was horrified. :D :(

I've warned both my parents and all older relatives about various pratfalls. Especially when they read something out and I ask WAS THAT FROM THE DAILY EXPRESS?

They adjust their reading glasses, squint at their phone and say "oh yes, right, don't worry then"

Channel 5 were very late to get their news coverage up and running. They'd only been on air for a few months and hadn't really prepared for having to drop everything and just have the news.

Are you sure it wasn't Havakazoo?

Oooh Matthew Wright just went in on the royal family on This Morning. Phil, Holly and Vanessa Feltz clearly disgusted. :D

I don’t think my mum identifies as a racist :eyes: at least not primarily

I think her ranking of bias is maybe foreigners, people in council houses having babies on benefits, then black people

This I'd like to see. :disco:

I can’t find a link. It will probably be somewhere on Twitter or the likes? He just basically shot down the fact that people say the Royal Family bring in more than they cost claim that people spout with no evidence to prove, and the fact that they are the richest family in Britain yet are funded by the tax payer.

I think Charles knows the tide is turning though and if reports are to be believed he is planning a scaled down less expensive coronation next year, and a slimmed down ”working” Royal Family.

And what if you’re all three? Public hangings?

Now I'm all for a FREE DAY OFF WORK (or would be if they still applied to me...) but I don't REALLY understand why we need another load of OLD POMP in addition to what we've already had. He's been sworn in ANYWAY and is already in the job, so it really isn't all that necessary...
