I thought the same thing. Bit DODGY but where do you draw the line?

Especially in a world where Trump and Boris get away with what the fuck they like...

BBC TV news had a fake silhouette of the boy. Look out for it and the very 00s haircut.

Absolutely - there's nothing overtly sexual within the messages but they look very dodgy given the age gap.

Wee Deek really should known better.

Can you groom someone of legal age?

I get that you can because 16 year olds are... well they're 16, but the law makes no legal provision of age gap (something I've long thought it SHOULD). They could have been legally been in a fisting orgy and no crime would have been committed.
 
Maybe I'm a little confused on the parameters of 'grooming'.
 
You are right, I think. It just doesn’t look very good when the finance minister is trying to get in to a 16 year old boys pants by offering to take him to the rugby (probably on taxpayers money :basil:)
 
Also it seems the boy has told him that he was 16 and not to try anything so he must have felt some sort of pressure being hounded by the finance minister.
 
Part of the issue is that the language used in some of the messages are straight out of the GROOMER'S HANDBOOK e.g. "our chats are just between us".

He clearly knows it doesn't look right for a 42 year old to contact some 'cute' teen he found through social media with messages, with the aim of arranging a meet.

Abeit it's hardly "Daddy wants to fist your boipussy tonight" but STILL.
 
On a related note....

Not that I have ever visited Pornhub. But I've heard if you go to the front page showing the most viewed videos of the week it's full of incest Dad and Son clips, with very young looking models. They make no effort to deter you from thinking they're supposed to be anything else. Surely this is feeding into the idea that these kind of relations are not just ok, but sexually desirable.
 
Tory MP Connor Burns does this a lot. He even picks them up from their home. But obvs that’s fine as he’s a TORY.
 
My first thought was bleurgh, but he's above the age if consent. Then I read the contents of the messages and felt slightly different.

The NSPCC defines grooming as

Grooming is when someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them.

within that definition I'd say it's clearly grooming. And Mackay clearly knew it was dodgy.

In short, I think he had to go.

I don't think this is the same scenario (mostly because the teen is STRAIGHT apparently :side-eye:) but when I was 16 and I was CHATTING UP forty-something gays I knew EXACTLY what I was doing.
 
Reading the transcript of the messages it is especially creepy, as the boy doesn’t reciprocate at ALL. Mackay definitely can’t take a HINT.
