Not unexpected but

It's such a shame the narrative around The Shining and her subsequent mental health issues overshadows everything else about her career, which was truly fascinating before and after that movie.

Three Women is a proto-Lynchian classic that definitely deserves a wider audience, and her other Altman lead in Thieves Like Us is worth a look as well.

Plus of course her contribution of this size queen anthem to the culture.

She also dated Paul Simon, and after they broke up she introduced him to her friend Carrie Fisher, who inspired parts of the Graceland album.

Ergo no Shelley Duvall quite possibly = no Graceland.

So sad about this, if not exactly surprised A part of me fantasised about her having an against all odds comeback even though I know that was a ridiculous thought. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say she was genuinely unique.

3 Women really was the one, generations of directors and actors have been trying in vain to recreate a dreamlike atmosphere like that, and Shelley’s performance is perfect. I can’t imagine any other actress in the role.

God she's so luminously wonderful in those Altman movies. I remember seeing her in 3 Women and instantly wanting to watch everything she'd ever done.
