12. Belgium - Before the Party Is Over

I pre-empted my friend that the trick with this is they save the chorus back for the final minute. After this played she turned to me and said that this supposed trick only works if you actually have a chorus to save back.

I think this thinks it is better than it is. I don't mind it feels like an inferior version of Armenia's Not Alone from 2014.

13. Estonia - long song title

Yeah more noise. I do actually like this and knew it before, but the context it surrounds itself in is very unfortunate. One that works at 3am in a club and nowhere else, particularly not whilst people are still searching for that Belgiamese chorus.

14. Israel - Hurricane

Unfortunately I went to the bar during this so didn't get a chance to hear this properly. For those of you that are interested, GNL had a Kopparberg and the rest of shared white wine. I often just go for the house, but they had a fantastic Pinot Grigio that just couldn't be turned down :disco:

I’m not a fan of Koppaberg’s (or cider in general tbh). The alcohol free mixed berries one is my fave.

15. Norway - Ulveham

I really enjoyed the Norwegian national final and thought this was a great winner - it's very definite and knows what it is, and visually it is a MOMENT that swoops you in whether you wanted it or not. There was some controversy about this win in Norway, however, as allegedly the majority of the lyrics were taken from an unused demo for Lisa Scott-Lee's "Unleashed" album circa 2004 - she had been recording in Trondheim and Oslo around that time on a quest to find the elusive HIT SINGLE.

However, it is supposedly within the rules to take lyrics from an unreleased song and set them to your own music, which is what the band have done - the only major change is that in Lisa's demo she sings "the blood ran free" instead of "the blood flowed free"

[Verse 1]
I was such a fair and sightly maiden
With an evil stepmother, my mother she died
She turned me into a sword and a needle
And sent me to the king's estate
And the anger my stepmother felt the most
That all the stately liked me best

I thеn tore out her heart
So her blood flowed free
Then I got to drink my brothers' blood

[Verse 2]
Then she gave me skin like a grey wolf
She cursed me to walk the forest alone
And never will I be wholе and good
Before I drink my brothers' blood

16. Netherlands - Europapa

This was a great closer and I think I love this? Eurodance is probably the best genre of music (Mozart jealous) and yet this crosses over into an unusual place by also being quite emotional? And I don't know why - but something about the whole production and the video gave me a lot of feelings. VERY GOOD

FINALISTS

1. Sweden - Unforgettable

I say give these evil little twinks what they want before it's too late!

3. Germany - Always on the Run

Better than it should be. I do think at this stage they should just keep sending Lena

4. Italy - La Noia

Noisy and aggressive. I did not like this upon first listen but I appreciate that it is 'good'.

5. Spain - Zorra

Oh thank God. THE best song this year and probably Spain's best ever entry. It has everything a winner should and yet none of the things a winner should at the same time - what a unique little duck. I will be very surprised if this doesn't sweep the board, and by board I mean the American Grammy Awards 2025. I don't know who the sassy little spring chicken singing this song is but she has star quality and it needs to be awarded. The product of Angelina Agurbash x Charlotte Perrelli x Margaret x the nation of Malta x VoR's dildo story x Lucille's bins x geopolitics x failing economies x Sarah Harding releases 'clubby' new single x the twins have written another song x dying at home x Alizee - Moi Lolita x all of the 12s
