In a bizarre oversight, presumably because we have a MF forum, we don’t have a thread for this!

What do we think of its chances?

nobody has really talked about this winning the whole thing, but the more I listen, the more I think it has a shot in a very split year.

The last time we were so lacking in runaway favourite, Azerbaijan won, so ... why not?

Oh well @Ag stepped on my point a little there but I’m glad I’m not alone.

I mean I don’t want to think him being black will count against him, but at least last year Austria showed that the juries were up for a black winner finally. I mean seriously, how many have there been?? Any solo artists? Loreen isn’t quite, and Estonia was a group

Seeing as this is basically Austria 2018: REDUX I can see him absolutely soaking up the jury vote - whether this translates into the televote I'm unsure, particularly in the East (and that's before you factor in Sergey repping Russia)

I find him insufferably smug personally, and would hate for him to win as we'd have to deal with him popping up at Melo/Eurovision from now until the END OF TIME!

I thought Netherlands WAS a runaway favourite?

Maybe because we didn't have that many black singers in Eurovision?

Anyway this feels like a contender, it always has to me, I know some feel the song is a bit generic but I really think the live performance elevates it

When you realise most of the black singers in Eurovision are from UK you understand it's not about race, it's about the quality of the songs.

THIS. That fake-arsed ALL THESE VOTES FOR LITTLE OLD ME? and GRATEFUL GAPING MAW routine at MF turned me right off. And I really hate the song. 0/10 :disco:

Well 9/10 actually, it's a bit weird how after the first chorus it all just stops and starts again :bruised:

I don't think he comes across as smug at all? I think he sees himself as a songwriter who broke through unexpectedly and is very humble about it.

Second place with the juries, second place with the televote, inoffensive enough to appeal to everyone = winner.

That's the main issue I have with it. It sounds like a 4 minute song badly edited to 3 minutes, in a way that sees it lose any momentum.

That said, the performance does elevate it, and it is quite joyful, albeit in a slightly creepy Song Of Praise way.

I’ve sort of decided that Hatari are going to come second but if this DARES to come first, I’m going straight over to Sweden with my guillotine to finish off all of Moopy’s shitty Svenska favourites, obviously starting with that riddled hateful hag LENA PH and dead loss Wiktoria will finally get her just desserts for that VASTLY IRRITATING W
