Meh they put out a live montage video for "Sparks Fly" which is the new single. A bit annoying that they half-assed the release considering it has the potential to be one of the bigger hits off this album

The album has stalled a little compared the previous 2 hasn't it? I haven't played it in full for quite some time now actually, it's just far too long especially given I have the almost 2 hour deluxe version. There are still some cracking songs on it though, I'd love to see her release Better Than Revenge or Haunted to show something a little different.
 
I like the album, but the issue is that she's just strayed soooo far away from country pop. A few years ago I could never have seen her coming out with a song as AWFUL and overbearing as 'Haunted', for example. Her appeal back in the Tim McGraw days was that she seemed like a sweet girl writing soft, sweet little pop-countries songs. Her voice doesn't suit massive backings and all that AT ALL.

The exception is "Long Live", of course.

It's still selling around 14k per week here, which isn't bad given its total of nearly 3.6 million in the States but I imagine with a proper hit on the level of "Love Story" or YBWM it could've done a good deal more. They might do a re-release before Christmas like with the last album, that would help it along
 
Haunted is fantastic, I think she's right to have moved her sound on slightly. It's not like she's gone R&B/Dance on us, she is still very much in the same ball park as before, she's just tweeked it enough to make it intresting listening to a new album.

I was thinking they would do something like that anyway, seeing as it is the DONE THING these days. Maybe they should try and focus on getting something a la Love Story on there to get a proper hit on the album to help sell it. Although with Q4 sales I'm sure it would probably be able to add another million to its total anyway.
 
If it does reach 5 million in the long run, I wonder what female artist was the last to do that with their first three albums? Even Britney came just short of that
 
I don't mind her going more pop, I just think Haunted and certain other songs sound really contrived and forced. She doesn't have the voice for those big production songs imo. And I hope she doesn't continue to go down that route at the risk of losing all country elements in future.

It was bad enough when she got rid of the banjos and stuff for Love Story when releasing it on pop radio.
 
But there's still stuff like Mean and Never Grow Up on the album which are very similiar to stuff on the first album. Plus she was never THAT country anyway, it's always been country lite.

There are, but those songs have had less of a presence with each new album, sadly. I realise that she was never bluegrass or anything, but her debut album was still heavily country-pop, and in a softer, more unassuming way than the stuff the typical Martina McBride/Faith Hill/Carrie Underwood country star would put out. Listening to "Taylor Swift" back then, you would never have expected her to come out with a song like Haunted. Her voice and songs just don't lend themselves to the pop-faux-rock stuff imo, and she's losing the charm she had back in 2007. I get that singers need to evolve, but I don't like the direction she's heading in.

Then again though, plenty of people prefer her doing the full-blown pop stuff, so different strokes.

EDIT: Why have I been calling her debut album Tim McGraw? :S

WHY has Enchanted not been released?

It is as EPIC as Taylor Swift will ever be.
 
I fucking adore "Enchanted" (I think it was my #1 song of 2010 in fact) but I never thought of it as a hit single. But I guess there's not much to lose at this point
 
Maybe it's because I heard the pop version of Love Story first but I do vastly prefer it to the country version. To me IT sounds like the not alltogether successful country 'remix' of a perfectly good pop song.

A re-release of the album with a live DVD may have done more business but this won't be bad for a 4th quarter cash-in either. I'm sure she's already writing for the next album though for 2012

I know the album has done very well, but they really haven't picked the singles very well.
 
some parts of that video made me actually laugh out loud. like when she comes back to the printer for the third time and it's GONE and her staring match with the fat water cooler guy :D

They got the singles wrong for pop radio if you ask me. Despite the album's pop leanings, "Mean" and "Sparks Fly" were pretty huge country hits. But pop singles like "Back to December" and "The Story of Us" didn't really CONNECT like they should. I'm still amazed that they never sent "Sparks Fly" to pop radio as single #2, it would've been a bigger hit than "Mine" IMO.

But what can you do, the album's well on its way to crossing 4 million in the States alone so she's done quite nicely for herself considering the lack of blockbuster singles.
 
And album #4 (hard to believe she's already that deep) is already planned for a 4th quarter 2012 release. I wonder if it will be another 1 million US debut :disco:

Taylor Swift has often said she wants to issue albums every two years, and it appears her as-yet-unnamed fourth studio record will meet that standard, giving music retailers a bellwether title for the holiday shopping season in 2012.

Swift says she is "twice as far along," she says, in writing and recording material for her next studio album, than she had been at this point for previous albums. She already has written 25 songs for her next release. "Speak Now," by comparison, had 14 titles on the album's standard version and 17 tracks on a Target-exclusive deluxe edition.

"During the first year of writing the 'Speak Now' album, I was really writing songs that didn't end up on the record because I didn't know what the record was going to be," she says. "Once I kind of locked into what the record was going to be, in the second year I wrote the songs that I was most proud of, like 'Back to December' and 'Mean' and the first single, 'Mine,' and a song called 'Ours.'"

Nathan Chapman, who produced her albums, is overseeing the next as well.

Swift wrote the songs on "Speak Now" by herself, though the credits will likely include a few collaborators the next time out.

"I've had two co-writes, and I've written the rest of it by myself," she says. "Co-writing is so much fun when you have time to schedule it in, but for me, usually songs hit me in the middle of the night and I end up writing it before dawn, so there's no time to call somebody. When there is time and you can get in a room and talk it out and work it out with somebody, it's like the coolest form of therapy."

This is/was my least favourite Taylor Swift album but recently I've had a bit of a love affair with Last Kiss, Better than Revenge and Ours so I don't know anymore! Last Kiss is especially beautiful and is now my favourite song on the album. It takes a bit of a while to get and I think it's because it's pretty much entirely in the lower part of her range, but when it clicks it's incredible.
