The Property Porn Thread

The flatness of London is probably what bores me most about it. I love living in a hilly city with unexpected views at every turn.

I mean I choose to live in the flattest bit, but STILL...

Is this American for a flat?
Apartment is American for flat. Some of the fancier apartments are being advertised as flats to sound more European though. A walk-up means it doesn't have an elevator

I used to live in glamorous GARNETHILL in Glasgow and the walk up the hill from Sauchihall St. nearly killed me on several occasions.

It’s the opposite here, flat is considered quite COMMON.

In the UK, a walk-up is a flat in Soho with a sign saying 'attractive model' next to the open door.

Is this a good or bad thing? I can’t tell :D
It's a brothel designed to get round the UK laws banning that sort of thing. So whether it's a good or bad thing really depends.

Here agents use MAISONETTE to make it sound posh, when it's just a manky old flat over 2 levels.

I don’t get POSH from “maisonette” at all. I’d be much more impressed by SPLIT-LEVEL APARTMENT

You could call something a council estate here and that would come across as fancy
Very much NOT the case in the UK. Everyone’s first assumption whenever that term is used is SCABBY LOW-LIFE HELLHOLE

I assume that turnover and profit 'disclosed on enquiry' means that the only money they make is from selling the bullets fired at them during the armed robberies.

Oh yeah I've never actually heard the term anywhere but Moopy but it was just a thought

Actually that's one for the things you hate thread. Using 'mews' as an alternative to 'road' or 'street' on newer housing estates.

I'm almost set on thinking I want somewhere of my own, but in my desperation to find somewhere decent i messaged somewhere nice but noticed after the fact that a 42 year old dad and his young son live there.

This was his message:

hi T yes its still available, but ive been very busy and disorganized its my birthday and im going to a music festival on Thursday probably won't be available to view until Monday, Tell me a little about yourself maybe youll like this place maybe not, looking for a tolerant reasonably tidy, not quiet but not noisy lodger preferably mildly Communist.

I mean, I think I'm all of those things but maybe not mildly communist?

Also I wouldn’t live with a random parent and child of any age

They also live beside where I used to work so there's a chance I could have taught the son.

One possibility is that the kid is with mum mostly so I'd only be living with dad most of the time? The area's dead nice and I'd have an ensuite.

There are just so many people looking rentals here right now. 😔

I think you should definitely not do it. His writing makes him sound like a mess and he has a child there!
