Ooooh - FLOATING VINYL POCKETS!

Does that just mean BROKEN?

DYING! £100 for a compilation which is basically available in most charity shops for £2, even with the vinyl boom, just with half the Voyage album tacked on.

KEEP GIVING US ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, MY QUEENS

I see it's up for pre-save on streaming. How will that work, because it will decimate streams for Gold if people listen to that instead, won't it?

Surely our chart isn't so fucked that it will allow double counting for two compilations...

But then why would you want to pre-save something where there is nothing new anyway, and you could just create a playlist now if you want it?

I see that having ‘No Doubt About It’ as the last song means that the final line on the first 50 years compilation will be ‘this isn’t where it ends’.

Which they should have done on Voyage all along.

I wonder if this means nothing will get counted towards Gold once the new compilation is released and it will drop off the chart. I wonder if the record company have realised that that’s a possibility.

Who knows? I doubt the chart rules are the same in every country, if anyone has considered it.

Obviously there have been multiple compilations over the years since Gold, but I don't think any in the era where streaming is king.

I suspect if it did happen, they would just quietly delete the album from streaming after a period and allow Gold to get the streams again. They could easily create an official playlist of the same name but linking to Gold and the other necessary albums.

The albums one confuses me, but I think they label have a choice on which GH each songs counts towards? So I’d assume they’d simply leave that as Gold and this won’t impact anything. It being on streaming is likely just to promote people physically buying it/all streams still bring in £ anyway type thing?

INTERESTINGLY, two people have messaged me about this in the last day. One being a GAY who knows about these things but one being a random female straight friend. Both of whom have only bothered to contact me to say what a ridiculous cash grab this is.

If that's true, I agree that it makes sense for the streams to go to Gold, where most of its sales come from anyway. This is clearly only going to appeal to fans/collectors (hence the price), so let it have a week or two on the chart, without making much difference to Gold at all.

It does just seem odd to me that people are pre-saving links for the album now, could stream it after release, but then still have those streams allocated to another album entirely. And considering half the tracks on it aren't even on Gold, do we get an even more ridiculous situation where some tracks are allocated to it, and others aren't?

Actually, thinking about @Devil's point, I'm fairly sure that is true about labels being able to choose where streams are allocated- I seem to remember reading about it on music week via ukmix, when a Whitney (I think) compilation fell out of the chart purely because streams were allocated elsewhere.

Yeah, Steps are another good example - all now go to the Platinum Collection (hence it went Gold a few months back), but Gold is still up on streaming. I assume all streams from Gold actually count towards the Platinum Collection despite it being a separate release. See also Britney for the 2004 big selling GH but now everything counting towards the Singles Collection that charts every week.

Anything only on one I assume have to go to that one but usually there’s enough cross over tracks that the bulk will only go to one release and so there is never two charting at once.

Mind you, they have also included Chiquitita which makes UNICEF far more. That is still streamed 175k daily, compared to 6k for Little Things.

I hope Britney's GH never go away from streaming, hers is one of the few that suffer the ever-annoying fate of being a mix and match of album versions and random single edits, much like Hilary Duff and P!nk. I remember reading on Popjustice Steps suffer from that as well. Surely people prefer the UK Mix of One For Sorrow over the USA one.

I think the latest Steps one and Gold were fine with that, but I remember the Ultimate Collection using a couple of album versions. But yes, the amount of acts that don’t consistently use the single versions is quite odd. I don’t know why you’d use an album version on a singles collection, even if it was better, unless somehow it has eclipsed the version released in popularity.

Just give us More ABBA Gold on vinyl

And actually they could have done a third standalone Gold. ULTRA ABBA GOLD or something. Keep the branding etc

blatant cash grab yes but more fun than this

They have already done the 3CD Gold for the 40th anniversary. And Complete Gold and Forever Gold. So I understand them leaving that another year or two.

But yes, give the fans More Gold on vinyl. That's something that'll cost little to do that people actually want.

Presumably they will divert the streams back to Gold next week. They will be crazy not to.

It is a shame to break whatever the consecutive total for Gold is though. And makes a farce of the chart, but it's not like there aren't multiple examples of that already.

I've just watched a fan unboxing video, and the '24 page illustrated booklet' is more than a third blank pages. Together with the font and spacing issues and it's safe to say fans aren't happy.

And yet they STILL KEEP BUYING!

If it's only midweek #13, on two formats and having hoovered up streams of Gold, I don't think that many people are. Even I've thought I'll wait until it's reduced somewhere.

Maybe they wanted to accurately represent the first 50 years of activity.
