Think how much it will have resonated with her after the past 6 months

SEXY, CONFIDENT!

Finally watched this. As always the comments about the gore were worse than the film itself. Overall I enjoyed it, definitely chuckled here and there (Demi's cooking scene) but could have done without the silly blood spattered ending.

This will only make sense to reality TV heads, but I'm in an online fantasy league for Oscar predictions and the third username on this list had me cackling. :D

I would love her to get the Oscar. Is it at all likely?

Did my shot of Ozempic, hopped on a treadmill and watched this.

What DELIGHTFUL UNHINGED NONSENSE. Despite having the general vibe of it spoiled through months of memes, it was still an excellent, hilarious experience.

Monstro Elisasue putting the cutout face on as a mask was EVERYTHING

I saw this a little late and I realise I never shared my thoughts which are - it's a perfectly entertaining film. the opening shot on the walk of fame is a gag! I really like how it races through plot without bothering with anything tedious like BACK STORY.

but it really doesn't have a single idea left after the first hour. the second she's told she has to swap back every week you know exactly where it's going. I thought the second hour ran out of story and by the time they're fighting each other it's... already over. tack-on Carrie finale was not impactful.

also I get that it's meant to feel vaguely fever dream-esque but why is that billboard directly outside her apartment angled at her window? nobody else sees it! feels like a waste of advertising money.

7/10. largely for Demi, Marge and the laugh out loud GORE. (I don't know if Demi needs the Oscar nomination.)

The Globes have form for throwing in curveball results, but still, a lot of Oscar pundits have been confidently predicting that Mikey Madison is locked on to win Best Actress for Anora, so for DEMI MOORE to beat her in the relatively soft Musical/Comedy category is quite a turn-up.

They’d probably rather give it to a big name veteran who has never really been in any awards conversations before, rather than a breakthrough performance. See also Jamie Lee Curtis for EEAAO.

Yeah I agree. Madison is great in Anora, but the Demi Moore comeback really feels like the *story* of this year's awards season. She also has the makeup scene which has struck such a chord, whereas I don't know if there's one standout moment in Anora that would be comparable.

That said, the Oscar voters are generally a lot older and more conservative than the Globes, so as well as Moore is doing, a shock snub still isn't totally out of the question.

Oscar nominations come from the branch only I think. That should have Demi Moore sailing through, given her career.

Once you're through to the nominees though, everyone votes. I guess the worry is how many members will turn off The Substance when it all gets too gloopy :D
