UK: The Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson years - problematic + infected + broke the law + electoral poison + sneks + not very good + OVER (funny)

I'm actually really excited now; surely we're witnessing the last days of the protracted belly flop into a drained pool that was the Johnson era.

I read the other day that his ambition was to stay in the job longer than Cameron, I hope it really, really fucking hurts that he didn't even last anywhere near as long as Theresa May :D

All this was, in the end, was a petty schoolboy rivalry which, due to the class system, was played out on a national scale. Fuck both of them, in the ear, with a javelin.

"I deeply regret any mistakes that may or may not have been made but I encourage the right honourable gentleman to wait for the Sue Grey report"

I'm still worried this isn't enough for him to go to be honest...
The problem is that even if they trigger a leadership contest but he decides not to resign and to fight on (as is likely) then will there be enough of a backlash to oust him?

As far as the public is concerned he’s dead in the water now. If he does decide to stay on the Tories will melt down altogether. Of course, there’s no rational way the Sue Grey report will come back in his favour (that’s not to say it won’t…) so he’ll be under huge pressure to resign when she drops that opus.

I don't disagree but you've got idiots like Nadine Dorries who'll back him to the hilt. The question is whether more will back him or ditch him

As much as I don't really like Starmer, his steady centrist Dad approach is looking more appealing in the face of all this bullshit. Dreaming of a Labour win at a hastily called GE followed by a socialist uprising led by Corbyn wielding a pointy horseradish.

Is there a poll that shows what the general public think of this or of him?

What if people get bored of these stories and turn i stead against the plotters (and sympathise with him)? :(

Oh to be in the room with him when the penny finally drops that he's actually in trouble.

Surely we don’t need the SG report now? She’s essentially just told us she has enough evidence to consider this a criminal matter. Why would the met be involved now if the report was going to say he’s blameless?

Oh his approvals are in the toilet across the board. This is a very personal story for a lot of people so the anger won’t dissipate, and the fact that a standing prime minister is being investigated by the police should see a reduction in the number of people vocally supporting him - he’s a toxic brand.

The public has definitely turned against him based on the polls, what we don't know his how long that will last - British voters are notoriously fickle.

And yes there is a large number of people in the country (mostly boomers) who think it's all a bit over the top and don't understand what the fuss is about, it was just a few drinks, etc

These are the same people who took us out of the EU and put Boris in power in the first place. The sort of people who say "well I don't like Boris too much, but what's the alternative?" and you ask them to name any policies that they support, or if you ask them to name one specific thing they don't like about the opposition or its leader, they can't actually give you the answer.

Or put in another way, they read the Daily Fail.

The good thing about that though (PLEASE GOD) is that it's the fickle nature (and exploitation of Brexit) that got him in - or at least with that thumping majority - in the first place.

I like to think a lot of Conservative votes were only lent to him in the first place.

Poor figures for the party but shockingly poor for him (think worse than peak hopeless Theresa May, which looks irretrievable). If there was an election today they would crash out of power quite spectacularly.

It is also incredibly difficult to turn it around when the rot truly sets in. Major couldn’t do it in 1997, despite a booming economy. Cameron kind of managed it in 2015 (but was in nowhere near as bad a position in 2012 as this) but the collapse of the Lib Dems masked what was really a standstill at best.
