UK: The Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson years - problematic + infected + broke the law + electoral poison + sneks + not very good + OVER (funny)

Are Labour or Starmer not making a massive fuss about this, or is it just that the press aren't reporting it?

When will Boris finally fuck off? Surely he has no intention of running in the next election, and he’s obviously gagging to get back into the private sector.

Not that I've noticed.

From recollection when Tory sleaze under Major happened, Blair et al never let it go...

I imagine the Tory whip under Johnson is pretty aggressive, so when they’re all forced to back him over something they know is going to backfire, only for him to then U-turn on it and make them all look like idiots, is one sure way to loosen you power over your backbenchers.

They were threatened with losing constituency funding. So, yeah, pretty tough.

Sadly, the most recent suggestion is that he wants to equal Thatcher's run. Whether or not the party will let him try is another matter. It does seem as if people who have supported him are finally tiring of his "so fucking what?" attitude and, higher up, there are major concerns about him chucking the Good Friday Agreement into the bin in name of Brexit.

Labour and Starmer absolutely are kicking up a stink about this though? That's pretty much the only reason it's become a story at all. Otherwise it would have passed quietly and Joe Public would be none the wiser...

Maybe it's because this is so obviously corrupt but the coverage I'm seeing is much more about "they shouldn't be doing this" rather than "Labour have made this an issue". Although if it gets to the same end result maybe it doesn't matter.

I appreciate the irony of complaining about this post-Corbyn, but yeah that's just the way the media has covered it. This didn't happen out of nowhere!

"Well, what red blooded male doesn't like to photograph his wife's tits in a public place, what what?"

Every time you think they couldn't get more cartoonish, they just do.

Given the +5 for the Green Party, which is a huge bump for a party with a small base, it just shows how fickle the British Public are

“OMG Cop26 omg Greta omg did you read about … oh look a squirrel”

:goodgrief:

and they’ll be back to where they where come Monday.

What a weird result, the tories lose 4 points which the Greens pick up all of!
It’s not that strange, the environment isn’t necessarily a left wing concern only. I doubt many people know much about their policies on other issues though.
However there’s probably been a fair bit of movements from Conservatives to Lab/Lib and from those parties to Green too

Also, the main TERF leadership candidate was unsuccessful but there is nonetheless a huge TERF element.

Which is why I'm not recycling anything, eating cows raw off the bone and spraying a full aerosol every hour, on the hour.

There’s always been a small contingent within the Green Party (and what was the political ecology movement) that is erstwhile quite conservative. The Greens perform respectably, if not spectacularly, in quite a few solid Conservative rural seats.

It worth remembering the origin of "Conservative" - it has the same root as "conservation". Now, over the years, it has certainly been more of a pre-existing class structure that they've been seeking to conserve but the Tories have actually been comparatively ambitious re: climate change (we'll see if it's all words in due course) and green-belt areas are often vigorously protected.

Also, anywhere there is green space is expensive to live in and therefore, has a wealthier population who are more likely to vote Tory.

The Green Party policies:

Trans rights

RR530 The Green Party recognises that there are many gender identities that are within, and outside of, the traditional gender binary of man and woman. The Green Party recognises that trans men are men, trans women are women, and that non-binary identities exist and are valid. We shall respect transgender and non-binary people's identities as real. The Green Party shall include, and push for further acceptance of, transgender and non-binary people within all areas of society.

RR531 The Green Party believes that trans, non-binary, genderqueer, third gender, and intersex people should have their gender legally recognised and be empowered to update their birth certificate and any other official documents, without medical or state encumbrance. We support the right for individuals to update their legally recognised gender by self-determination, the only requirement being a statutory declaration, to how they would describe their gender, including having the option to change their name on all documents.

RR532 The process of transitioning through the NHS should empower rather than demean trans people. Gender Identity Clinics should consult service users on how to better recognise trans people's own expertise and experience in service provision.

RR533 The NHS should better recognise the increasing need for Gender Identity Clinics and increase service provision, across the country

RR534 The NHS should remove barriers to accessing services for trans people, with thorough review of access to services for Children and Young People and for those who have self prescribed or self funded gender treatment in the UK or abroad

RR535 The Green Party would push for root and branch efforts to address transphobia in society, initiating public education programs both in schools and wider society. Current anti-discrimination legislation should be reviewed so as to provide protection to all trans individuals. Current exemptions to anti-discrimination legislation should be scrapped

RR536 A Green Government would review the Gender Recognition Act 2004, the Equalities Act 2010 and the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 as they contain significant flaws that discriminate against some Trans people and thus they are not fit-for-purpose.

The Green Party recognises the following issues and would ensure the reviews of the acts outlined above resolves the following issues:
• There is currently NO legal recognition for non-binary people
• There is currently NO legal recognition for trans youth (trans people under the age of 18)
• There is no provision for the alteration of birth certificates for intersex people
• Married trans people in England require permission from their spouse before gaining Legal Recognition (the spousal veto)
• Trans people are often forced to conform to stereotypical gender roles before being able to transition
• There are few protections for trans people to access services and gendered spaces (such as toilets, sporting facilities or hospitals) that match their affirmed gender.

In sport, trans people are often ‘outed’, subjected to humiliating treatment, forced to provide unnecessary medical details and proofs of ‘genital surgeries’ that have no relevance to the stated aim of ‘ensuring that all of the same gender compete on a level playing field’. This is due to the extensive amount of exemptions contained within the existing Gender Recognition Act, not least of which is that a trans person’s birth certificate does not have the same legal standing as a cis person’s.

RR537: The Green Party would remove the legal barriers to trans parents having their gender properly recognised on their child's birth certificate. We would ensure parents could choose the right option for them (mother/father/parent) on a birth certificate.

RR538: The Green Party would also investigate setting up a process, in consultation with the LGBTIQA+ community, to be able to correct birth certificates that were issued with an inappropriate description of a parent.

All true but they still have a significant element agitating against that policy. As do the SNP, of course.

I think the right wing climate skeptic types make people think that the environment is a left wing concern but there's definitely a lot of Conservatives for whom the Greens make more sense as a failsafe than Labour or UKIP or whatever. Boris' missus probably being an obvious example.

They're not gonna be gluing themselves to train tracks at an XR protest, but they're animal lovers, like being out in nature, and have a National Trust membership (even if all that WOKE NONSENSE is testing them).

Uncharitably, this ideology basically:

His latest round of fuck-ups is not going away, for once - the whole Tory corruption/Boris dodging scrutiny is front page again this morning and in normally supporting papers. Hmm.

Leave the Tories in power long enough and they’ll always manage to destroy themselves. I think heartily endorsing corruption is a bit of a game changer since both sides can broadly agree that corruption is bad.
