a 59.5m debut day is strong by most standards but definitely underwhelming for The Weeknd. Sacrifice is #1 on global but only with 5.6m which is also a bit on the low side.

there are no "slow months" for streaming :D what are the kids doing instead? READING A BOOK?

It's the new STOCKING PROBLEMS.

I get certain days of the week are slower than others. But debuting on a Friday shouldn't hurt it - January or not!

Aren't his debuts always a bit underwhelming? and his big hits grow from there?

The last album debuted with 444k in the US! with bundles, tho, I think.

I suspect this will do something like 145k. Physicals aren't out yet?

Oh, apparently physicals are out 1/28, at least the Target exclusive.

Nothing really stands out does it. Not a bad listen, but nothing I am compelled to go back to after a couple of listens. "Less Than Zero" vaguely captured me.

second and third listens do improve things a bit. but no pop hits despite being a very pop album. the "sudden drop" tactic is the only thing they could've done really.

what a rubbish album.

i guess the music industry set the standard so high that closeted try-hard queens like this one just can't keep up.
the shade! I think the Weeknd is very capable of excellence but just not very interested in doing the kinda thing I want from him.

Starboy was his best record - Secrets, Reminder, I Feel It Coming, Rockin' (!), A Lonely Night... so many great songs. he really went for it.

I’ve said before but the Starboy tour was an absolute blast because of these songs. Not sure I’d pay over £100 for his new stadium tour to listen to boring RnB

Sacrifice is such a bop. I’m getting Tame Impala vibes from it.

How Do I Make You Love Me? is gorgeous.

Less Than Zero is epic.

Once again it looks like I’m keeping the Max tracks and binning the rest.✅

apparently Out of Time samples some random city-pop/J-pop classic which totally explains everything :disco:

Gasoline video

Sacrifice is holding well at #3 global, and surprisingly the next two are Is There Someone Else? (#5 US) and Out of Time (#4 US)

I think Gasoline could be a hit though

Less Than Zero is the Save Your Tears of this album, I cannot get enough of it.
Please let it be a single in early 2023 featuring a female singer, thanks Abel 😍

Why does he constantly wander into a British accent on certain songs? Is he meant to be referencing someone? It's bizarre.

I kinda LOVE THAT! kween sounds fabulous on Gasoline.

they are pushing Sacrifice to radio and that's a mistake. it's such a forgettable song. Gasoline / HDIMYLM? / Out of Time / I Heard You're Married all slay and deserve their moment. (i need an edit of Out of Time without fucking Jim Carrey doing his Hunter S. Thompson-at-heaven's-gate bit.)

I’m pretty into this album after listening to it a few times yesterday and this morning.

Out of Time is my favorite, but I also love Gasoline, How Do I Make you Love Me, I Heard You’re Married, and the extended Take My Breath.

I quite like Sacrifice but it is a bit by the numbers. Much prefer Gasoline too. I love the spoken verses and it sounds so sweet when his other voice comes in on the chorus.

So he missed #1 in the US. Someone named GUNNA sold 153,000 while The Weeknd sold 148,000.
