Fuck off! Omg that’s crazy! I don’t follow the charts clearly. Wow.

The 35th highest selling album of the year has never been higher than 27th in the weekly chart.

I couldn't hum most of that Top 40 and I'm more than content with that.

The albums chart shows the damage inflated streaming "sales" has done. Too late to fix it now.

That album probably stands out somewhat unfairly. The peak position listed is the highest position the album has ever had, not so far this year, which I think would be far more interesting. But that would expose how crap sales are and how stagnant the chart is. Obviously the OCC aren't keen to highlight that.

Just looking at some others, Oasis hasn't peaked above #14 this year, Bob Marley #20, Beatles #23, Michael Jackson #25 and Pop Smoke #32.

The highest new entry this week was at #42 :manson:

Those chart rules are really working a treat!

Paolo Nutini plummeted and came in just outside the Top 40 :(

Yeah, the only song which wasn't in the top 40 last week is a re-entry that climbed back in at #40. Dynamic.

The UK chart run of OneRepublic's "I Ain't Worried", if you include its midweek trajectory:

47-28-31-24-21-14-13-12-10-9-6-5-4-{3}->14

That's some organic old school shit right there :disco:

Yungblud

Megadeth dropped out of the top 100 from last week's #3

From what I have seen of Yungblud (mainly an appearance on Never Mind the Buzzcocks) his persona is rather wearying, and his previous music definitely not my thing but I've heard a couple of singles from this album and they're not bad.

The album chart is so grim though. 95% greatest hits/catalogue titles and first week entries.

Manic Street Preachers getting to #4 with a reissue feels mixed. OK, they've completely revised the album and it's far more interesting than the average reissue but it feels high for a curate's egg. Sales must be fucked.

Having a look at the streaming, download and sales album charts was interesting.

The top 10 of sales was almost all new entries, some of which were very low on the official chart. Streams basically reflected the official chart and downloads were a hybrid, with compilations thrown in

I've always thought downloads were a perfect chart system and I haven't changed my mind.

Although you could simply look at the singles streaming charts as what the kids are listening to and streaming albums chart as what the adults are listening to. Which has kind of always been that way to varying degrees.

The GH has become a problem for the chart. The Weeknd made a savvy move releasing a GH. John Legend has just done the same. Interesting to see how things progress.

Worth noting ABBA Gold was one of the few GH that was high on all charts (Queen, Elton John and a couple of others too).

Is Madonna doing staggered format releases to keep FEL charting? Surely there's no way it has much casual appeal?

She's 29 on sales. Steps who have left the official chart are 21 on sales. So fuck knows.

I think the download chart (for albums particularly) is interesting, because I think there's a relatively clear demarcation between demographics comparing the physical and streaming markets - and downloads kind of straddle it.

Album download sales are particularly piss poor though.

How much 'casual appeal' do you need to sell less than 2000 copies?

Yeah there's actually no logical way to explain why Madonna is where she is. She's 84 on streaming.

I still think it's a good shart run for a remix album with no new material and no promo!!!1!!!!!one!!!!!

Some copies of my FEL pre-order from her official store months ago miraculously landed on my doorstep today. Mr Postman is part of the ClearShannel Madonna staggered release TikTok shart conspiracy.

Yeah there's actually no logical way to explain why Madonna is where she is. She's 84 on streaming.
Are Steps on the streaming chart at all? Total sales are so low, even a small streaming advantage to Madonna over Steps could give her a significant final chart position difference.

There's less than 2,000 sales between #22 and #146 on the album chart this week.

There's less than 4,500 between #5 and #146. No wonder we get so many formats and heritage acts do so well on physical. Even Toyah was #8 in the first midweeks.

The Fizz's strategy of only selling the physical and download of their new album through their own website and it not being on streaming at all didn't work out too well...
