I nicked this from UKMix

All change this Friday with lots of new peaks, and most of the Top 100 being re-entries and potentially some new entries of previously struggling singles...

Hope Sam Fender hangs on for Top 5, a huge result.

1 Gayle - ABCDEFU
2 Acraze feat. Cherish - Do It To It
3 ArrDee - Flowers (Say My Name)
4 Sam Fender - Seventeen Going Under
5 Ed Sheeran - Shivers
6 Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart
7 Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits ^
8 Adele - Easy On Me
9 D-Block Europe feat. Central Cee - Overseas
10 Fireboy DML & Ed Sheeran - Peru

11 Joel Corry feat. Mabel - I Wish ^
12 Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz & Encanto Cast - We Don't Talk About Bruno *
13 D-Block Europe feat. AJ Tracey - Make You Smile ^
14 Glass Animals - Heat Waves ^
15 Adele - I Drink Wine ^
16 The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber - Stay ^
17 Imagine Dragons feat. JID - Enemy ^
18 Jessica Darrow - Surface Pressure *
19 Justin Bieber - Ghost ^
20 Ewan McVicar - Tell Me Something Good ^

I note some NYE party re-enteries lower down for Whitney, ABBA and a-ha

Shouldn't this thread be 2022?

Good for Sam Fender and no to this Bruno business.

Encanto doing very well, but ‘Surface Pressure’ is a bop.

This week's chart is quite fascinating.

Adele went BACK 37 places to claim no.1.

Didn't the record label apply for a streaming reset? I read something to that effect on ukmix earlier in the week.

It's not clear if it was requested but it certainly had a reset. Had Shivers not still been on ACR then it would have been number 1 instead.

Doesn't it have to be requested? Which seems wrong to me, but welcome to the chart and how flawed it is anyway.

It's crap though. Surely either it gets reset and Sheeran should be #1 (as much as I'd resent that), or it isn't, and ABCDEFU should be.

Adele certainly doesn't 'deserve' it.

love Adele scamming her way back to the top :disco:

I think I've only heard the #1 and #10 songs of the top 10 this week. I feel boomer.

The only other one you'd probably like is number 3

On a normal week it's an automatic reset if it outperforms the market by 25% (and is less than 3 years old) but 2 years ago so many old songs were automatically reset after Christmas that the OCC changed the rules last year so that for 1 week only the record company could request a reset for a "currently promoted single" . It looks like everything which went to ACR in December has been reset, and anything earlier hasn't so they may have changed the rules again this year.

What is "resetting" streaming and why did it have such an impact on Adele?
If a song is more than 10 weeks old and drops in streaming for 3 weeks in a row then it's streaming ratio is halved (known as Accelerated Chart Ratio). If it's reset to Standard Chart Ratio then its streams revert to normal until it drops for 3 consecutive weeks again.

The success of Encanto really underlines what a non-event West Side Story must have been. None of the songs from that got anywhere near the charts to my knowledge.

Looking at the OST on Spotify, nothing has even cracked 1 million yet. The biggest song on Encanto (Bruno) has 30m and 3 additional songs are over 10m.

The largest demographic for West Side Story was over 55. That isn't going to help with streaming, is it?

I mean, yeah they're both musicals but one is a children's film with new songs accessible to millions upon millions of subscribers, and one is an already-known property aimed at older audiences who weren't rushing to the cinema in Dec 2021

Encanto is starting to feel a little like Frozen, at least when it comes to the soundtrack. I know it has had an underwhelming box office (although it has presumably smashed streaming on this evidence) but the music is going great guns.

Mariah Carey begs to differ… wait was that just in America? I’ve had a wine.

Yeah that was the US

At first I was thinking what the fuck has Berly been drinking, Mariah Carey WISHES she'd had a number one in the last 10 years... then I remembered we'd just had Christmas...

how quickly time flies.

In fairness to Adele that's only one single, and she didn't bother with Christmas. Sheeran had four and Elton three, AND they both double fucked Christmas.

Streaming really has made the charts DULL.
Did you see the list of #1s from the separate sales and streaming chart I posted elsewhere?

I'd seen the sales one but not the pure streaming...the only thing that really stood out was that the reissue of Ghost Town had done more business that I'd imagined.

It's the difference between the album sales and the overall charts that riles me. The sales chart is much more interesting but you can also see how in-the-gutter sales are by the bottom 25 or so of the top 100.

Ghost Town was the best selling vinyl of last year. I think Kylie/Dua #4 and Abba #7, from memory.

The #4 album this week, DS4Ever by Gunna, actually sold 67 copies.

What were the sales for each of these weeks? (if that isn't too much to ask, although I totally understand if it is :D)

No idea, sorry. I imagine the info is out there on ukmix, if only in the main chart thread for each week.

It's rare that we get the split of sales and streaming, usually only for the combined number 1 (which of course many of these were not)

The #4 album this week, DS4Ever by Gunna, actually sold 67 copies.

Good grief. I notice these albums that are huge on streaming only are usually artists of whom I've never heard. I'm not against those cultures being represented in the charts but I still think the streaming ratios for albums should be at least doubled to give actual sales a more appropriate position.

Does the younger generation even care about music charts in the same way as we did? I don't really know many people under 25 :(

Probably not. After all - why would they? You almost couldn't ignore the charts when I was growing up, now you have to actively seek them out.

I have mentioned something about music charts to friends many many times, and they have cared maybe twice
