United Kingdom 2021: James Newman - Embers (1 Viewer)

Darline were awful live in though :D

Bit wobbly but I think they sound fine! The song mostly covers it up.

Probably a pointless debate anyway, so I'll just lay some flowers on Darline's corpse, whoever she is, and move on

I still think it's decidedly stronger piss than Joe and Jake's quite weak piss. That's a compliment, of sorts
I don't hear it. Tepid at best, and I don't think it would have performed significantly differently.

I'd say that the missed opportunity was Freaks in 2019. Yes, the kid who sang it was one of the more punchable people in history, but Maroon 5 had a massive global hit with basically the same song later that year.

If that had gone the full emo pop rock mile it would have been great, but it just felt far too restrained. Plus, like you say, he had a face that made me want to steal a car just so I could run him over.

I really hope it isn’t James Newman again, My Last Breath was utterly dire - like the worst parts of Coldplay and OneRepublic combined.

Reading this thread, it’s clear we’ve had some real missed opportunities across the last decade. Is there truth in the myth that the BBC don’t want the UK to win because they don’t want to pay to host it? Makes little sense to me.

Haven’t Steps (well, H) also said they’d be up for it? I know they’re getting on a bit but Scared Of The Dark at Eurovision would’ve been utterly perfect.

They should just internally select Asanda. This time with a song called 'Legend'. As a huge 'fuck you' from her to anyone who didn't vote for 'Legends'.

So, Twitter is ABUZZ with rumours that our song is by Fleur East and is either called 'Here I Am' or 'Bringing Back Love Tonight'. This stems from tracks under those names being registered for upcoming release, both co-written by James Newman and being published by a subsidiary of BMG.

Don’t get our hopes up it’ll be fucking Ana Ann

This could be fantastic.

Why wouldn't either of these just be performed by James Newman?

A duet means it probably wouldn't be a banger. And I don't want to waste Fleur on a ballad.
That's very ON BRAND for the UK delegation though, isn't it? It's a sort of uniquely British bit of decision making.

You'd never catch Sweden taking someone renowned for trampy schlager, strapping a guitar to her and making her sing a self-indulgent dirg... oh, wait.
