following on from several mentions in the best solo spice songs thread, Let Your Head Go is now considered a critically acclaimed banger and a minor pop classic. and despite her efforts for it to be the serious single, This Groove is also high camp, and has quite a fabulous chorus.

I watched for the videos for both videos and think it's quite interesting to see the effort that went into some kind of character for her as a popstar. this vampy, high glam woman who was embracing being sexy while being also kind of in on the joke.

and it's such a strange twist of fate that despite going top 3, the single ultimately ended her career and/or made her want to leave music behind completely.

does anyone know which song went higher on UK radio? and what do you think of this aa-side now?

I can easily see somebody like SG Lewis or Fred again.. producing Let Your Head Go for a current popstar/dance vocalist, and it would pop off. the hooks are so :disco:

would she have done better as a 00s dance vocalist, rather than leaning into "urban" sounds? was her career cut short or it was end inevitable? paging all spice correspondents. but don't be a hater @Pipo.

BY WHO?

VoR and a few Moopy gays does not a “critically acclaimed banger” make!

like VB, I have a dry sense of humour that you might not have heard about 😇

I like "Let Your Head Go" but it literally could be anyone singing it (and probably would've been better served for virtually anyone else :D )

Didn't she have an unreleased album to go with the single package? Is there a reason it wasn't released off the back of this making the UK top 3?

I just don't think she's a pop star, which she presumably figured out. Not enough of an identity to pull off anything other than something as vapid as LYHG or anonymous as OOYM. She served her role well in The Spice Girls, but aside from being a caricature of herself as Posh Spice it never really worked as a solo project. She needed much better material to compensate for that.

her new record label went bankrupt in the new year of 2004 and dropped her before they had decided on a second single I think.

Cause they spunked loads of money on the double a side package and it massively bombed sales wise.

Because she won the “Which Spice Girl Has The Hairiest Fanny?” poll on Dotmusic and her label didn’t want to shell out for the IMMAC.

As a Posh Spice fan from the first time I heard Wannabe (where she has no line of her own), I never really liked Let Your Head Go (but I was obviously happy for the its unprecedented success), but obviously preferred the sultry gem that is This Groove which suits her rich vocals the best.

Her unreleased album had both of these and obviously it’s the dance songs that worked better for her. Not sure it would have changed anything if it were released or not but some of the songs were fine pop songs.

(Hearing them now they sound very much of their time and her vocals are shockingly bad so I can’t believe I actually liked any of this :D)

The record company went bust hence the album was canceled, but yeah, it was completed and ready to go. They had another single ready to be released during 2004l My Love Is For Real which also had its remix package.

Once that dried up she just gave up (For the best tbh) unlike the rest of the band who carried on relentlessly to diminishing returns.

I will always maintain that Simon Fuller ruined the group and overworked them; if they had taken a break during 1998 perhaps Geri might have held on for a little longer, we could have had a third solid album before getting something along the lines of Forever which as a swan song honestly, it sucks. The worst thing Virgin could do were being convinced they could maintain 5 different profitable solo deals! Having 5 successful singers from a band sounded ridiculous from the get-go, especially when half the group didn't scream solo artists.

Like I said in my other post, something post-2003 went completely wrong with her and she just started phoning it in, I'd rather have her sing with her real voice, flat notes, and all instead of being vocodered to death. Even her bit in Headlines was bad!

I can't actually remember how either of them go, but I know I didn't like them at the time.

I'm not sure how many people rate them highly, in order to mark them as overrated though.
