I got Spider-Man 2 for Christmas, took a little break this week but I'm back into it now. It's very fun! It's basically more of the same with some small improvements, but it's just very high quality and they're managing to tell a decent story (so far, according to the PS5 stats I'm about 60% through so we'll see).

I also bought myself a Steam Deck thanks to a bonus from work, so have been tinkering with that and playing a few things. It has OF COURSE become yet another way for me to play Vampire Survivors (which might be on the way to becoming one of my favourite games ever tbh, mindless as it is :tongueout:) and I got the Resident Evil 2 remake very cheap so I'll delve into that at some point too.

I also started a new game of Final Fantasy XV, using mods this time - the main one being a thing that rebalances the AP costs for new skills. I've also rebalanced the game's STRAIGHT CRIMES by making Cindy wear a T-shirt and jeans while also installing about twenty different topless Gladiolus mods 💃

I'm about 80% through and absolutely hooked. The way everything starts to dovetail in the story is really well done and it's such a fun and satisfying game to play.

The black suit is also just so cool looking, once all the tentacles come out it reminds me of the Prototype games (which were of course basically Venom games without the Marvel licence already :tongueout:).

I quite enjoy the Spiderman games but they’re something I can happily wait until they’re ultra cheap to buy before I play them as they don’t add enough between each entry to get me onboard at the beginning.

I’m currently going through Nier:Automata, FFXVI and I’ve got a save on FFX-2 right near the end I want to platinum.
Sadly back to work tomorrow so time has run out!

Just finished Alan Wake 2. Absolutely excellent story. I thoroughly recommend it (but at the very least play Alan Wake 1 first, it's on PS Plus I believe)

At a bit of a loss what to do next though. My next big game is the next part of the FFVII Remake, which is over a month away

Did you ever play Metal Gear Rising? You don't need to have played any of the rest of the series to understand the plot (but needless to say it's ridiculous), and it's by PlatinumGames so plays like Bayonetta/Devil May Cry etc rather than having stealth gameplay. I think it might be up your street!

I've been thinking about a Steam Deck, but I'm still a bit unclear on whether it's worth the investment. I don't play games on Steam, but that's only because I don't really enjoy playing games on the PC. Is it literally a handheld console (I'm thinking similar to the Switch) that runs most Steam games? Also, are Steam games generally cheaper than console games, and are there limitations on what it will run? Presumably, something like The Sims is going to be a pain to play on it, if it even runs at all?

I've just preordered Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown. Reviews are overwhelmingly good, and unless you're dead set on wanting a continuation of the '00s iteration of the series - which this most definitely is not - it's apparently one of the best Metroidvanias of the last few years.

Finished Spider-Man 2. Really fantastic storytelling; I actually got a touch EMOTIONAL at the end. I won't give too much away but later abilities you unlock are SO satisfying to use.

Yeah, it's basically a mini PC in a Switch-style form factor (you can even get a dock for your TV, though you'd have to pair a controller via Bluetooth). Part of the appeal for me is that I had a decent amount of Steam games purchased from over the years so they'd be available already, but games do tend to be a bit cheaper on Steam than the consoles most of the time (you can also install games from other PC storefronts and add them, though it can sometimes require a bit of fiddling). You would be able to play The Sims on it if you liked - it has touchpads so you can emulate mouse movement, and Steam is really good at letting you customise controls (you can even browse and download controller layouts other people have put online, all through the Steam OS).

Thanks, that's useful to know.

I'll look into a bit more. I've become quite disillusioned with consoles this generation, and where the Switch has excelled is in being a portable home console and the range of games across the retail releases and eShop. I think it's also inherently changed my relationship with gaming because I now feel buying a game on the PS5 automatically comes with a restriction that I can only play it at home in one room. Thus, wherever possible, I'll pick things up on the Switch.

It's the first time I've owned all three consoles. I bought the cheaper Xbox model purely for GamePass, and, in fairness, I did use it to play a fair few games that I probably wouldn't have bought. But I cancelled the subscription over a year ago and haven't used the console since. I've used the PS5 a little more, but again, there are very few first-party games that have wowed me, and it's more for multi-format games that I know won't run well on the Switch.

I guess it was already happening during the last generation of consoles, but this one feels like the first where the cost of developing games has really changed the landscape. I don't see much variety any more. I really miss being able to pick up a game for £20 in the supermarket; it might only be a 5/10 or 6/10 in terms of quality, but if it entertained me for a few hours, I was generally content. I guess a lot of what I'm thinking of has moved to places like the eShop, which is why I think a Steam Deck might be the way to go.

I absolutely never want to buy physicals for a contemporary console/platform again. Only if there is a too good to miss bargain I guess.

The last physical game I have is Strangers of Paradise, and that was bought for me. I'm fully digital now and happier for it

I replayed Pokémon White recently. The magic is still there. Still gives me all the feels. One of the best storyline and game soundtracks but also loved the whole idea of being locked out of getting the classic pokemon and having to use (at the time) a team composed of new Pokémon. I hope the rumoured remakes are as amazing!

I'm tempted to get the Super Mario RPG remake on the Switch. I remember having fun with the SNES port on my old Wii, although admittedly never finished it. :D

I'm just getting fully into Sea of Stars and oh my, for a 90s RPG homage it certainly ticks all the boxes. It's meant to be quite heavily influenced by Chrono Trigger (which I've never actually played, I really must rectify that). The music and visuals are utterly stunning and I'm enjoying the battle system, although I'm going in hard by applying the Tactician's Mettle relic which makes battles more challenging and was how they originally intended the game to be apparently.

You can tell it's an independent title, maybe because of how it mimics classic RPGs so much, I don't know what it is (or maybe I just notice because I know and wouldn't otherwise), and I've read the story and characterisation is increasingly questionable (the characters are definitely a bit faceless right now) but fuck me, this is still a lovely magical retread of this era of RPGs....for now! I'm about 6 or 7 hours in I think

I played the demo and found it quite difficult (although the demo itself was glitchy, so I don't know whether the final game is a bit more polished). It looks lovely...but I'm waiting for iam8bit to release the physical edition.

I tried the demo and it didn't grab me sadly, I find that these Chrono Trigger-inspired RPGs by Western indie developers are always just missing that special something that the original had. Whether it's uninspired character designs, fiddly battle systems or just being too long (CT being a brisk 10-15 hours on the first playthrough is a big part of the appeal for me), there's always something that makes me bounce off them.

Diablo IV

I’m tempted to get the Elden Ring DLC but I burned so many hours on the base game and I really don’t want to get that sucked in again 😂

I got a PSVR2 while it was on sale so been enjoying Beat Saber and Resident Evil 4..but sat down :D

That's just it, it's Nintendo nostalgia. Sony has some incredible legacy iconography and I was really hoping that would leap out more than thinking what Nintendo games did it first. I mean, I'll get it eventually. It's quite special see a platformer look so dazzling.
