What did you do during COVID?

YouTube home workouts mostly. Did enjoy several of the Moopy sync listens I partook in. Didn’t really drink more alcohol as I worked the whole time, didn’t even wangle a single day off due to the pandemic.

I think my main one of the named options was ‘copious alcohol consumption’ but that really wasn’t specific to covid times.

I didn't really do less work than was required but I only had to teach a morning a week so most of the time I didn't even have my laptop out.

I took up regular running, two writing classes, weekly Scrabble, two weekly quizzes and did a jigsaw.

I don't think I've ever been healthier. I think I thrived on the forced routine honestly.

We had roast dinners every Sunday, watched obsessive amounts of Eurovision and I killed a man.

One day we're going to talk about lockdown like old people spoke about the war to us.
Yeah, sometimes it feels like we overegged it and it wasn't as extreme as we expected. Then I see this list and do some googling about weird lockdown things and realise that it was a bit surreal.

I suppose WW2/Blitz stuff didn't feel all that crazy in the years immediately following either.

The first lockdown was glorious for me. Suddenly the pressure to find work disappeared, Moopy was at an all time peak, it was sunny, spent lots of time with my now husband, playing chess and cooking and every Friday, me and the girls had a Zoom soirees, with lots of booze of course.

It was terrible for Mr Ag though. Unbeknownst to me, he was still drinking, and that became incredibly difficult, with us both at home. Thankfully he finally quit in April 2021, within weeks he found his birth family, our first niece was born and he got a promotion.

The only downer for me was that I had to complete my Masters at home. I really thrive academically with fellow students.

On balance though, I had a good lockdown. Hard to believe it all started almost five years ago.

I did the opposite of excessive alcohol consumption and did about six months teetotal.

Didn’t last :(

Going quietly insane on Animal Crossing should definitely be an option here.

I actually spent hours if not days building a close-to-perfect recreation of my local pub :D

Oh yes I also played a lot of Animal Crossing, and also completed a few Final Fantasy games I'd never finished as a teenager.

I did a lot of cycling. The weather was glorious and the roads empty. I had some very good times.

Otherwise it drove me mad a bit. I like human interaction. I felt like one of those old people who talks excessively to a checkout person just to get some human time.

There were some fun times. Moopy was a lifesaver obvs. Music nights on Twitch. Spending eleventy billion pounds a month on Master of Malt and doing Zoom tastings with people. Discovering I like RUM!

But I wouldn't want it back EVER. I like PUBS and GIGS and DANCING with PEOPLE. Plus I blame the fact they banned running along the riverside for me turning into an obese liger.

Very few, really. Or at least a few of them once or twice, but seldom more. But then my life didn't change much. I still went to work every day (on lovely quiet roads), and I didn't like going out that much before to miss it that much.

For selfish reasons there are definitely aspects of it I wouldn't mind having back.

I didn’t really feel the benefits either. Everywhere seemed to stand still in towns and cities but I lived in the middle of nowhere so it was like that day to day anyway and I am not great with isolation. It was fun for a while and me and the kids did enjoy it initially but it lasted far too long. I found it to be a really scary time worrying about if it was going to kill off members of my family. 😞

I didn’t clap for NHS heroes as it felt totally pointless doing it with no neighbours other than whatever wildlife lurked about in the grounds in my Scottish abode.

I must ask though was it a good time to interact with people who live near you or was it just a clap on the doorstep then back inside? It must have been nice to see different people even if it was people you wouldn’t generally want to have much to do with?

It was literally about 60 seconds on the doorstep clapping, waving at Gloria over the road and asking if her cats were okay. I think I did it three or four times.
