For me personally 2010 was the EASY weak link. I find it's very light on highlights or particularly memorable staging moments. There's also ballads from Portugal, Norway and Israel that I have no recollection of ever hearing or seeing before in my life :D

Lena was an easy, memorable winner in a year that to me seems quite uncompetitive in hindsight.

Pulling this together reminded me just how FABULOUS some years really were :disco: 2012 and 2016 were both falling over themselves with highlights, as was this years TBH.

Has to be either 2011 or 2015, but I'll go with 2011. The quality was diabolically bad all round - you could probably only count the number of songs worth listening to on both hands.

ooh, i should probably give this more thought but i went for 2013 after debating between this year (the least invested i've been due to not being home to watch with my friends and not having time to hear anything before the show) and 2010 (it did have hera and playing with fire).

2013:
- hated the winner
- my favourite didn't qualify (rak bishvilo)
- only really cared for love kills, birds and (the year's saving grace) i feed you my love
- pretty awful big five
- embarrassing national entry

yes, i know petra was hosting but i'm voting for contest material only :hitler:

songs i loved: wolf kati! caroban, taken by a stranger, popular, jestem
songs i liked/made me laugh onstage: sognu, haba haba!, get you, seh-labrate, lipstick

but yes, there was quite a bit of dreck too but then that's not really an exception.

2011 lost a lot of the fun stuff in the semi finals - Haba Haba, the GIANT WOMAN from Croatia with 3 ridiculous dress changes, Dana International's return (STILL not over that NQ), I Love Belarus <3, Poli Genova's first attempt and that shocking rubbish from Armenia :D

i don't like poli genova and that song of hers which is much more on brand for the type of singer she is. if love was a crime was totally not her and that's why it was good.

i have loved dana for a long time but ding dong was absolute rubbish. thought her semi-final performance this year was also embarrassing.

Song wise I think definitely 2013 (same reasons as Am’s) or 2017 because I barely remember any good songs right now and I was hardly as invested as I used to be.

2012, 2014 and 2016 are the clear favourites and 2019 will probably join in too.

2011 or 2015 for me.

Plenty of good songs in both, but screwed by flat presentation.

2011 lost way too much good stuff in the semis, and then the final is absurdly front-loaded. Add in easily the crappiest winner of the decade and it’s kind of a rough watch.

2015 has the most boring voting ever. Practically every country had the same top 7 in some order. Also the hosts were dull, and it’s probably the year with the fewest songs that I frequently go back to.

2014 was pretty weak. There were a few highlights - Conchita, The Common Linnets bur far more stuff that really hasn’t held up over time.

I always remember 2014 for that Cheesecake shite and the incestious Belgian perv.

This was the only year in recent years where I've not felt the slightest impulse to watch the semis - so 2019.

2014 is one of the all time greats!

- Conchita’s victory
- The Dutch comeback
- Sanna finally getting her moment
- Polish tits
- RUTH LORENZO
- A non-mortifying UK entry
- Valentina’s night of dreams
- Hatchet faced Slovene flute lady and her inexplicably mesmering Parachute rip-off
- Quero ser tua being one of the greatest gay fave flops of recent years

I could go on.

2011, 2014, and 2015 are my bottom three (from song quality); 2011 clinches it though.

This is really hard, there are too many factors.

I guess I haven’t had any bad years. If I had to pick anything it could be 2011 because the staging was so misjudged, but also I WENT there so it’s hard to be impartial (except when my expensive seat was in a terrible position behind a pillar and further forward than the main stage)

Even if I didn't still enjoy Jamala, Justs, Zoë, Dami Im, Francesca Michielin, Amir, Greta Salome and a few others to a lesser degree, 2016 will always go down as one of my favourites because of Lynda Woodruff, Måns, Petra, and Love Love Peace Peace.

Is it some sort of inflatable cast, or has he been fisting jellyfish?

Do you just mean dwarfed by the size of the stadium, or something else?

Yeah mostly that. Was that the one where the green room was behind the screen, or was that Oslo?

The scale of the stage and even the catwalk was just too big for a 3 minute song. Compare with 2013, it was easy to go out for a bit and come back during a verse.

Only Dana International managed to really use the 2011 catwalk by power strutting, and even then she only just made it to the second stage (not of the competition, sadly)
