I'd assumed this was a JOKE! :D

Anyhoo, I hear Bad Boys Inc. and Phixx are actively seeking new members to replace their outgoing ones. Anyone heard any of fingerings?

Mike Nolan and Bobby Gee

If Ashley Taylor Dawson‘a Hollyoaks contract hadn’t been renewed, he and the other one from *allSTARS would have been SNAPPED UP in a jiffy.

I'd missed the new members news, and oh my goodness!

Nikk last seen (by me anyway) in this truly wicked X Factor audition where our Cheryl had to walk off rathe than shatter her sort-of friend's dream, which Simon then did with aplomb:

Cheryl on Scott Mills this morning. Auditions today at Pineapple studios.

After telling myself I wouldn't (probably knowing I very much would), I watched all of this a few nights ago.

It's almost funny how at pains she is to stress that she and Jay aren't really friends.

I don’t really know all that much about them, nor really like them apart from a few tracks. Why is this actually a rather interesting watch :D Why did I even start?!

She actually comes across rather well. I know the other one is the problematic one, but I feel I’m become a Cheryl Baker fan

I enjoyed it too. Cheryl's always been quite fun, and she's not afraid to dish some dirt.

You'd probably like a fair few of the back catalogue. Beyond the hits, there are some brilliant deeper cuts with fantastic vocal arrangements and tunes for miles.

I quite like When We Were Young, but Land of Make Believe aside I probably don’t really rate any of the other stuff I’ve heard. I nearly feel they are probably to male-led for me to embrace them in a way I do Steps, but maybe I should give their Spotify page a spin.

If you look beyond the hits, I'd say Are You Ready and Hand Cut (the second and third albums) are the most pop. That's not to say the first is without its charms, but you can tell there was a degree of 'oh shit, we'd better release an album' about it. The 4th and 5th albums again have some good to great tracks, but it can all get a little MOR/AOR. And yes, on the whole they did rely a little too much on male lead vocals.

I don't really find them too male heavy, Cheryl and Jay are usually all over the tracks. Their vocal arrangements are really brilliant, especially in the early days.

And typing that out, I've got a sudden urge to listen to Thief In The Night. Jay certainly knew how to bring a bit of DRAMA to pop.

Its interesting in that video above (I think it's that one anyway), Cheryl refers to not having a lead vocal on Are You Ready, but how she can hear herself all over it. And it's true. She's not a great lead vocalist at all, but she's got an amazing voice for harmonising.

These are some of my faves @Devil - you and I tend to have similar tastes I feel.

Rules of the Game
Silly vocal on the verses but the chorus and key change absolutely slap.

I really love Are You Ready, it's such a great meshing of all their vocals. Cheryl really dominates it. My Camera Never Lies works in the same way.

Lest we forget

Honestly, The F - Z Of Pop was far better than I had any expectation for it. Shame they couldn't quite keep it up. Well, not that I've ever heard the last album which was fan club only and never released on streaming.

It took me DECADES to realise half of the female led songs weren’t actually male…

The first and last here are pretty decent. For some reason I just can’t take ‘get out of my kitchen’ as a lyric in a pop chorus :D

Debut gig on Thursday

Apparently they also performed Bad Boys Inc's More To This World, and Phixx's Hold On Me.
