Choosing between "A New Day Has Come", "That's The Way It Is" and "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" is borderline IMPOSSIBLE.

And that's BEFORE we get into the French back catalogue, we really should do favourite English and favourite French. :disco:

BABY BABY BABY is one my favourite bits of any song EVER.

But "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" is the one overall. The vocal delivery is exquisite and she really makes you feel it. I can't stand the English version funnily enough.

I don't know if this Moopy's feeling too, but having listened to Falling Into You recently, it stuck me how BEIGE Because You Loved Me is. It comes smack in the middle of It's All Coming Back (a masterpiece) and Falling Into You (a sultry bossnova she sounds so sexy on).

Because You Loved Me should've been given to Whitney. It's a nice love song with stark religious undertones which would have sounded so much more heartfelt coming from someone with a more gospel voice.

Decades of cheap XFactor copies haven't aged it well either.

As to actually answer the question, I DON'T KNOW, I don't like to tie myself to one answer and never be allowed to change my mind. I'm feeling It's All Coming Back and I'm Alive (and so ARE you mix) as my gut answers though.

I've never loved Because You Loved Me either, but it served a purpose. The fact that it's apparently Simon Cowell's all-time favourite song sort of says it all.

Because You Loved Me is well crafted, but I've never enjoyed it either.

I Remember LA and Call The Man are two of the deeper cuts that I've always loved.

Both versions of A New Day Has Come on the album really hit the spot. I think I'd probably choose the radio remix if I had to.

I've just remembered how much I love One Heart and Faith from the One Heart album too. On that note, it did seem weird to release that album just when the Vegas show was beginning, it made it feel like a bit of an afterthought. It's not very good either which didn't help.

Didn’t Because You Love Me properly launch her in America? Or was it IACBTMN? One of them anyway. I don’t think she was iconic levels before that album in the US and whatever was the first single was a huge launchpad if i remember correctly…

Because You Love Me feels like it would have appealed more to the US market (and crucially US radio) than It's All Coming Back To Me Now. I know they loved Meatloaf, but this was Meatloaf sung by a woman.

Power of Love was a huge hit in the US and she'd had a few hits in the years before (Where Does My Heart Beart Now and Beauty and the Beast). But she became massive in the UK with Think Twice of course.

That's the Way It Is. I don't remember thinking much of it when I was a kid despite the Max Martin connection but they tend to play it on MTV 00s whenever it plays in the background and WHAT a song.

Celine's single chart peaks in America

#35 (If There Was) Any Other Way
#4 Where Does My Heart Beat Now?
#9 Beauty & The Beast
#4 If You Asked Me To
#29 Nothing Broken But My Heart
#36 Love Can Move Mountains
#23 When I Fall In Love
#1 The Power of Love
#23 Misled
#95 Think Twice
#93 Only One Road
#1 Because You Loved Me
#2 It's All Coming Back To Me Now
#4 All By Myself
#1 My Heart Will Go On
#5 Immortality
#1 I'm Your Angel
#6 That's The Way It Is
#22 A New Day Has Come
#45 I Drove All Night
#54 Taking Chances
#70 The Prayer

So she was very much a hit maker (and chart-topper) before BYLM, but it certainly ushered in the era when she was really at the peak of her powers.

According to the excellent Stereogum #1s column, Because You Loved Me was originally offered to Toni Braxton, which I can sort of hear.

It was very telling that Falling Into You was the lead single here and Because You Loved Me was the US- lead. It was basically made for their saccharine, adult contemporary radio. It also had a film tie-in at the time and, if memory serves, the film would have been out in the US earlier than in the UK, hence the need for a different single.

Falling Into You, of course, was famously demoed by Belinda Carlisle. And you can REALLY hear THAT!

MOI NON PLUS, but then I already knew the original so well, that the English version just sounds weak and clichéd to these ears.

It was, as it was with much of D'Eux, slightly out of her normal comfort zone, thanks to the involvement of the slightly edgier Jean-Jacques Goldman. I remain astonished at what an astonishing pop song it is every time I hear it and, as with many of the best pop songs, just how dark it is lyrically as it edges from heartbroken woman to stalker to downright demented desperation. It's just beautiful. And the quite wonderful video, on which she's BASICALLY demented and on the edge, adds to that wonderfully.

We did Celine top tens elsewhere recently, so an easy cut and paste, but:

1. Pour Que Tu M’aimes Encore
2. It’s All Coming Back To Me Now
3. A New Day Has Come
4. Et S’il N’en Restait Qu’une (Je Serais Celle-Là)
5. That’s The Way It Is
6. I Drove All Night (Dance Mix)
7. Falling Into You
8. I’m Your Angel (SORRY!)
9. Je Crois Toi
10. Je Sais Pas

I would say so. The Power of love was #1 for a month, but it didn't even peak at #1 on Airplay, and the follow up from that album peaked outside the top 20 (in fact, Misled peaked at #52 on sales). It was Because you loved me that made her a proper star in America.

I can see why Toni Braxton was first choice for Because You Loved Me, and I can entirely see why she said no.

Speaking of Celine Dion demos, apparently Broken Glass from Sia's album This is Acting was supposed to go to Celine before Sia decided to keep all demos to herself and made the said album; I wish Celine's demo leaks someday if it exists but it's a good thing she at least decided to keep Love Me Back To Life.

From the other topic

1. My Heart Will Go On
2. If You Asked Me To
3. Courage
4. Have You Ever Been In Love
5. It’s All Coming Back To Me Now
6. River Deep, Mountain High
7. I Drove All Night
8.The Power Of Love
9. That’s The Way It Is
10. Ashes
