Ireland 2025: EMMY - Laika Party

I remember Witchwood so well from the headdy lockdown days, and if you'd have told me she'd be representing IRELAND a few years later for NO REASON with a similar style song, I'd have kicked you in the cunt.

Why does Bambie look so GLAM but with a face full of Bambie Thug cosplay :D

Also, it's been announced GET ON WITH IT, we don't need anymore conjecture

Absolutely THRILLED that nobody was buying what Bobbi was selling.

Look out for her X tomorrow.

The fact this girl knew this wouldn’t be allowed within 50 ft of MGP so pawned it off on a desperate Ireland instead!

The Irish delegation were so short-sighted for putting Laika Party in a really mid lineup of songs this year and not anticipating that this might happen. Surely there's going to be a backlash? And why on earth would anyone remotely professional submit themselves to this next year if they could just end up losing to a random Norwegian?

The funniest possible outcome is that this now outperforms the Norwegian entry this year. Which given the quality of MGP, isn't at all out of the question.

Those greedy Norwegians will infiltrate any country to get a spot at Eurovision!

I can't believe that Ireland has chosen correctly again, and that my Irish scarf will be getting an outing two years in a row.

Glad NIYL got 10 points from the public. The only true VOX on display all evening.

Patrick Keilty put it in a way that I think appealed quite nicely to that casual Irish viewer, by saying that we loaned Norway Fionnuala Sherry in 1995, and now they’re returning the favour :disco:

Why is VoR shitting the bed a bit over this? I like it!! It's unlikely to win, but I do think it's better than boring Samantha Mumba, is instant (perhaps too instant tbh) and feels like a worthy successor to last year for Ireland. It might lack the gravitas, but it's already a song I'd happily listen to over Bambie's

I love this but can see it crashing out in the semis... and being in the same semi as Luxembourg won't help either of them.

I'm really not that mad about it! Mumba's song was fairly underwhelming, as was everything in Eurosong this year, so it's not like I feel particularly aggrieved for anyone.

I just think it's quite embarrassing for Ireland, a country which is hardly San Marino sized, that following the huge success of Bambi Thug, the best they can do is to essentially outsource an entry that got rejected by Norway and has a tenuous link at best to the Irish music industry.

Honestly, Emmy isn't the problem at all. It's the same thing fans have been saying for years, the Late Late Show is just a dreadful platform for selecting an entry, and the delegation is among the worst and most complacent in the Contest. This just underlines that they got very lucky with Bambie last year, and a complete rethink is still very much needed.

Loved Donal (Ireland’s straightest man) referencing Wir geben ‘ne Party and using his dying screen time to rant about how the Late Late Show is not fit for purpose and other countries have much better stages for their national final :disco:

Also :D! at the Irish public placing ADGY above Samantha Mumba

I seem to have a memory of him proudly showing off a poster on his bedroom wall of Alla Pugachova (!) in the VT before his performance in the ‘08 selection? :D

Why oh why(especially as a dog owner) did I have to go and Google the real story behind LAIKA :(:(:(

I know it's a revisionist fantasy and this is peak derangement on my part, but the absolute whitewashing of the Laika story in the lyrics is really bugging me. :D

You have probably heard
About this brave little girl
All we know is that she saved the world

Erm?

She got sent away
But she wasn't afraid

She was almost certainly absolutely terrified right up until the merciful release of death!

What next for Ireland? A gentle bop about a nice Russian family making a go of things in Crimea?

I was wondering why the backdrop behind Emmy's featured bones falling from the sky.

I genuinely just thought it was RTÉ being whacky :D

Emmy also co-wrote Citi Zēni's song which is competing in Latvia tonight :D
