Louise - Confession (single) + Confessions (album)

I do too. But the level we are sadly talking is quite low! Even trustworthy Steps can do a 25k opening week for an album, and a few million streams for a single. With Lou being about a quarter of that I don’t really see why a big label would bother :(

God, imagine if this was a nod to both Dannii's All I Wanna Do and the single cover of CHER's Believe. I'd combust if any competent still-alive 90s dance-pop artist went with such a musical concept.

The entire album is out there. Surely, they'll have to move the release date forward?

Too contemporary for radio 2. Why are the streaming figures so low though - are people mistakenly typing in "Janet Jackson" or something?

She always has relatively dreadful streaming. Even Stretch is only on half a million after five plus years. Bit of a shame there isn’t any radio support, normally she does ok on Radio two etc.

I don't think Radio 2 is off the table yet, as I recall Stretch and Super Magic were playlisted a few weeks after release and ended up staying on the playlist for a while.

But yes, not sure what people expected her streaming to look like? Without much media support or Spotify playlisting, she's pretty much playing exclusively to her fanbase. It seems to be tracking about the same as Super Magic did.

I'm genuinely interested to see what Radio 2 playlisting does for streams for an act like Louise.

Currently On 62k on Spotify.

The closest comparison that immediately springs to mind in terms of an artist around Louise's age/profile who probably gets fairly minimal exposure beyond Radio 2 these days would be Will Young.

Obviously he was bigger at his peak than Louise ever was, and has more of a fanbase, but the three singles from his 2024 album are on the following totals:

450,000 Falling Deep
228,000 Midnight
197,000 Light It Up

Compared to Louise's most-streamed post comeback singles (all of which got Radio 2 support)

551,000 Stretch
355,000 Super Magic
334,000 Lead Me On
306,000 Hurt

She's had longer to clock up the numbers on those songs so it's not an entirely fair comparison, but it's the closest I could think of.

Promoted to B-list on Radio 2 this week

She got around 9k streams in the past week, taking her up to 71k total.

I'd like a sultry perf of this soon, maybe Sunday Brunch a stripped back perf. She's got good form on this

In terms of distribution, she's releasing through Absolute, who released the recent albums from Busted, Shaznay Lewis and Bananarama among others.

I presume a bit of a step down from BMG, but probably about in line with where she's at these days.

Yes both Bananarama and the Shaznay albums seemed to have a fairly good promo campaign behind them...

Can we have assorted highlights and quotes pls

LOVE CONFESSION SO MUCH BTW

I don't really enjoy her 90s stuff much, but I am loving the reinvention since 2019. I find her quite a joy.

I'll even brave Fearne Cotton to watch that interview.

No staggering revelations, but it's one of the most open and honest interviews I've seen from her.

- She alludes to having some kind of breakdown while touring America with Eternal, which necessitated her leaving the group.
- Confirms she and the Bennett sisters were strictly colleagues and never friends. "I would have appreciated a bit more moral support".
- On her reputation for being nice, 'Yeah, I'm not an arsehole, but there's more to me than just somebody who's compliant and easy to work with" (paraphrasing)
- She talks a lot about how she never knew her real dad, and it seems neither have ever attempted to find each other. For her it's because she considers her stepfather to be her real dad, and doesn't feel the need to seek another.
- She had fertility problems trying to conceive her first son, which was a factor in her stepping away from her pop career.
- She considers the music she's making now to be the best of her career, but reflects that "Because of my age, a lot of radio stations won't even consider playing it".

I always got the impression that Louise wasn't enough of a BIBLE BASHER for the devout SISTERS GRIMM.

It was also telling that after the first interview or 2 Eternal did after Louise left, the only one who acknowledged her existence after that was Kelle. The other two never ever mentioned her :D

I remember the Bennetts on Big Breakfast or somewhere saying they had no problems with Louise when they were being asked about her when discussing Kelle leaving but didn’t say the same about Kelle. I always got the impression from Louise that she and Easther were pretty friendly back in the day but maybe that was just a PR spin.

I like Louise better than I like her music but she’s definitely improved from ‘Heavy Love’ onwards. I somehow ended up with the first three albums but some of the singles aside they’re not great.
