Eurovision 2024: Malmö Arena

AMAZING opener :disco:

But yes, that has absolutely skyrocketed the chances of a 21 point televote shame :D

There's some irony in Unforgettable going first and then getting gradually forgotten over the rest of the evening.

“There’ll be another big change for Malmö 2024 announced soon….but some things are staying the same.”

They’ve already said the voting won’t change so I wonder what this could be.
Connecting the dots between most things they introduce to ESC being trialled in Melodifestivalen first, and Sertab randomly turning up, I wonder if it's introducing some sort of Eurovision Hall of Fame? It would hardly be a big or interesting thing for 99% of people but they hyped up the Caribbean cruises too :D

And yes, I don't really care if they open the lines from song 1 or after all songs as long as they don't plaster graphics all over the screen again! I also wonder if the thing about the Big 5 performing in the semis will disappear if/when we get a decent number of entries per semi again too

Wasn’t the Sertab rumour started by the ever so factual @EurovisionNewZ who in the summer announced North Macedonia were returning? :D

Oh true, I glanced at that and didn't really take it in :D Still, I'm imagining it will be something as ineffective as that that they're trying to hype up. Although I'm not really sure why they wouldn't just announce the third change with the other two? Ideally it would be a return to live backing vocals (with certain exceptions for electronic effects that can't be replicated live) but I doubt that will ever happen...

I also find the fact that the Rest of the World are now voting on dress rehearsal clips (like at JESC)... odd? The lines aren't even open for them at all during the actual final as far as I can tell? Which feels like a great way to minimise the number of people that vote in that

I think the lines are open during the final, it's just badly phrased. And let's face it, the rest of the world vote is purely diaspora anyway.

The HoD meeting is two days long isn't it? Could be a change that's announced / voted on during tomorrow's session.

It says "Online voting will open for the Rest of The World immediately after the second dress rehearsal for each Semi-Final and Grand Final has finished the previous night, and will stay open until the live shows begin." - unless that's just a pure mistake on their part. It's shown live in various places (Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and randomly also Chile last year) which I would've thought would be their main targets for votes (other than the inevitable diaspora)

Like I said, I think it's just badly worded. I think they just mean "all the way through to the live shows" basically.

There's going to be a pop up Abba World in Malmö, for anyone going and so inclined.

Calling all ABBA fans around the world - for two weeks only, ABBA World opens its doors in this year's Eurovision city, Malmö! Fifty years after ABBA’s international breakthrough with ‘Waterloo’ in Eurovision Song Contest, it's time to celebrate this milestone together with all the fans.
For the first time in the history of ABBA, fans will now be able to experience all the different parts of ABBA under one roof during Eurovision in Malmö, Sweden. Opening its doors on the 29th of April, ABBA World invites visitors of Malmö to explore parts of ABBA The Museum, ABBA Voyage, Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia! The Party and Polar Music International all at once.

Spread across two floors, this pop up event will create a space for ABBA fans across the globe to meet, share and create memories together showcasing both the past and present of ABBA. Placed in the central parts of Malmö, ABBA World will be open for visitors for two weeks only at Södergatan 28 between 29th of April and 12th of May.

I don’t know why I’m imagining the House of Illuminati version of ABBA The Museum… I’ll certainly pay a visit and find out though.

If anyone can bag any EXCLUSIVE MERCH and fancies marking it up and selling it on, hit me up.

I'll certainly check it out, but I wonder how much decent stuff they'll actually be able to borrow from the Stockholm museum, which will presumably still be open.

I suppose it wouldn't be that expensive to recreate some of the interactive exhibits though.

Abba World has toured while the museum has been open, so I'm sure they will cobble a decent exhibition together. I don't think it'll end up like the Wonka Experience.

If there's money to be made, they will make it work.

Get that meth-lab Oompa Loompa actress in to give us her Agnetha :disco:

What’s with them bringing back a bunch of ideas that nobody liked the first time around?

(Conveniently ignoring that this was the system that saved Charlotte Perrelli from total ignominy in 2008)

Tickets for Abba World now available

50 SEK, which seems incredibly cheap

I wonder if this will simply be a jury winner, allowing 11th placed in the televote through, or if like last time it'll be a wildcard out of who wouldn't have qualified otherwise... I hope the former, it seems fairer and more aligned with the whole idea of why they made the semis televote only in the first place.

Must be the televote choosing qualifiers first and then the last spot going to the best remaining jury act.

Good change, otherwise it would be way too difficult for Azerbajdzjan to bribe their way through the semi final.

I like it - going 100% televote always felt a bit too far for me.

I really don't think this can be true, as on the EBU's own article from last week (https://eurovision.tv/story/big-five-sweden-perform-semi-finals) they wrote "the Top 10 qualifiers from each Semi-Final will be decided by public votes alone."

Hungary have still been running A Dal, their national final, for the past 5 years despite not sending the winner to ESC. This won this year's edition so would've been the Hungarian entry:
