2024 US Presidential Election

Are there are any moderate republicans left? How much do they represent?

Genuine question.

Apparently there are quite a few but most have crept back into the dark to either protect their careers or because they’ve accepted defeat. They’ve had nothing to fight for. Suddenly there’s a narrative of “politics over party” which gives them a reason to get involved. It’s a question of how many are brave enough to take the risk.

Of course that’s just the ones who are in the party. As far as voters go, they’re no different to independents and swing voters. They just need a reason to not vote Trump.

As easy as that may sound, the economy is still the number one issue in the election and Biden has had mixed results. And even if he was killing it, Trump is very good at twisting the truth. We know his base believe anything he says. It’s a question of whether Harris can get through to the middle ground.

There are definitely moderate Republicans but they're basically invisible because they're either drowned out by the dominant voice or because they know better and mind their own business.

John McCain was a moderate. As is Susan Collins from Maine.

Based on likely and safe leans, Trump still has way more paths to 270. He only needs about 4 swing states (less if he gets PA) but Kamala needs almost all of them.
Not really. If she wins Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania that’d be enough (albeit just :D)

But that’s assuming she gets Arizona and Nevada as well and they’re not sown up either. Georgia and NC give her more options.

It’s probably because I still think Georgia is more likely than PA at the moment. That’s why I’m nervous.

She wouldn’t need any of the southern swing states if she got those three (well providing Virginia/New Hampshire/that one district in Nebraska don’t end up going into swing state territory :eyes:) I dread to think what would happen if she won by such a narrow margin though!

Yes and then of course there’s the house and senate which I always forget about and can be just as important

Only America would have a system where you can have a lame duck president who can’t pass any laws, but he can pick as many Supreme Court justices as he wants as long as they happen to DIE while he’s in office!

No wonder the constitution is such a MESSY BITCH!

Well when you're so motivated by hating the British (and to be honest, fair) you don't think to grab the good bits of the legislative system

They mock the concept of a monarchy (which hasn’t had any political power for over a century), and then yet they have the Supreme Court :bad:

I know they represent states that would vote for an unexploded hand grenade if it was registered Republican, but it's amazing that the Democrats seemingly can't put up more of a fight to knock out the likes of TED CRUZ and this guy, who genuinely looks like one of The Gentlemen from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Weirdly if the Democrats get even close to holding the Senate we'll probably wind up glued to a race in deep red Montana, where locally popular Democrat Jon Tester has managed to very narrowly beat the odds and cling on in his past two elections.

Loving this love-in (yesterday's clips were quite emosh actually) but where's all the CELEBS?

We need something to quell the tide of HULK HOGAN, ROSEANNE BARR and KID ROCK!

North Carolina has moved to a TOSS UP and some (but not all) pollsters have moved Pennsylvania from a TOSS UP to a DEM LEAN

It's HAPPENING JOE :disco:
