Corrie 2024

I don't watch it regularly enough to confirm, but apparently Gail hasn't been on-screen since March in any case.

Sally Ann Matthews made some cryptic comments on an Instagram live about the amount of time she's been off-screen:

In the case of Jenny, it does just appear that she's one of the (current) victims of the attempts to cut back on cast expenditure by just not having them on-screen - although why Coronation Street keep ADDING characters if they're already in a position of having to rest others makes no sense whatsoever.

It could be the same for Gail. Though, as Helen Worth's departure was quite unexpected, it's possible she'd already started scaling down her work commitments anyway.

How is it filmed? She is omnipresent behind the bar at The Rovers but only with a couple of lines here and there. It’s Daisy that I noticed wasn’t in it for ages but then popped back up behind the bar this week.

I would think Helen Worth has made a conscious decision to scale back this year but can’t recall them saying on screen where she actually IS?

It’s annoying with Corrie as I feel it is getting less and less viewers because it has gone to shit! It still easily gets the highest viewing figures of the three big soaps yet it is easily the worst.

Gail's exit is going to be absolutely terrible, it's such a shame. At one point she was possibly the best character in the show. You wouldn't believe it now though

They could feasibly explain that Gail has been off screen for so long because she's secretly been with Martin all this time, has come back to say her goodbyes and then leave to travel the world with him or something.

I don't really believe she would reunite with Martin at all, it's about 25 years since they divorced. But I get that they are low on options on how to write her out.

I agree that she shouldn't be killed off

I think it would have been a much better idea to kill her off. Christ, let her fall in love with yet another psycho and build it up to them being the one who finally succeeds to off her. I love her character but let’s be honest it is quite unlikely she will ever return.

Speaking as someone who doesn't watch, I think it's generally more of a tribute to a great soap character to give them a strong exit, than a weak one in the hope they may return.

Obviously Gail has family links which could see her returning on any number of occasions. But Helen Worth is in her mid 70s and presumably knows she could carry on for years like Ken or Rita if she wanted to, doing a few scenes here and there. She's chosen to leave - respect that, respect the character and send her out with a bang, not a whimper. And give Corrie a storyline people will want to engage with again.

I'd kill her off. Brutal, but.

Gail has been a part-time cartoon for a few years now. Even when she does appear, she behaves like the resident clown, and there is a glaringly stark contrast to the character who was leading most of the show's big stories in the noughties. (It's a similar fate that we've started seeing with Steve)

No point keeping "the door open", given that even if the Helen Worth ever did decide to un-retire, it's very unlikely Gail would be written particularly well.

And frankly, Gail making a sensible romantic choice would be her most unbelievable storyline yet.

Tonight’s episode has been the best in quite some time and has really grabbed my attention. Is it getting better AT LAST?

I do think that Dee Dee is an absolutely brilliant character. I think the episodes in which she features heavily are generally good.

I think there should be a day of national mourning when Barbara Knox dies.

My favourite Barbara Knox moment is when she heard that her daughter had been arrested for drink-driving. She was absolutely incensed at this so drove herself to the police station demanding that the police release her daughter and saying the immortal words, "Don't you know who I am?"

At which point, the police smelled alcohol on her breath too so breathalysed her then arrested her for drink-driving!

Forgot about this! :D :D :disco:

Can't take much more of this Rowan storyline. As if Ken would transfer all that money, thought he was quite intelligent?

Feel sorry for Jane Danson acting out this DRIVEL

Once the likes of Ken, Rita, Roy and Audrey are gone it's up to Leanne, David, Sally, Maria, Jenny, Tracy, Eileen to steer this SINKING ship

I would say David Platt is the only character who has remained consistently brilliant throughout his years on the show

Gail is in tonight’s episode. Is this the first episode she has been back in months or did I miss her return? Was it mentioned where she was?

Paul's exit was really well done but we could have done without the shit of Billy losing his phone, come on now

For all of Corrie's faults in the past couple of years I must admit they have done this MND storyline very well and he deserved the award
