HBO couldn't have asked for a better recovery from the The Idol debacle, with one of their most dominating performances in Emmys in years, smashing back against Netflix and Amazon.

They lead in HALF of the best drama category (4 out of 8) and the 3 most nominated shows (Succession, Last Of Us & White Lotus) are all HBO.

In the drama supporting category, HBO has every nomination - 4 each for White Lotus and Succession!

House Of Dragon gets some big nominations but is surprisingly and disappointingly overshadowed - it only received 8 nominations, and just 2 more than LOTR. Although LOTR only features in technical categories.

Surprised to see Andor as Disney's best drama entry.

Ted Lasso has done very well again for its final season.

HBO fared less well in the comedy categories, dominated more by the streamers, including nominations for Jury Duty :disco:

I've just noticed that James Marsden has been nominated for Jury Duty for playing himself :D

Apparently Queen Melanie Lynskey has been nominated twice - I assume the second is for guest role (Last Of Us) which aren't listed here. She's also up for Yellowstone, which I really must watch.

Apparently the biggest snub is for Harrison Ford, who has had rave reviews for Yellowstone prequel 1883, and also Shrinking, which I haven't seen and has picked up nominations, although the buzz was that its best prospect for a win was Supporting Actor Comedy for Ford, and he wasn't even nominated.

Emma D’Arcy in House of Dragin seems like quite the SNUB. I’m sure Elizabeth Moss is still doing a great job of looking miserable in the Handmaid’s tale but WHO’S WATCHING!

Like the ending on Succession rooting for Shiv and Tom to come out on top here too.

Also surely Jennifer Coolidge is walking this but let’s not forget Megan Fahy’s infamous ‘looking at the sea’ scene!

Yes! Also, love that Simona Tabasco and Sabrina Impacciatore are nominated.

the White Lotus noms are a slay and it must win everything. no other tv show this last year has come close. I'd second a surprise Meghan Fahy win if it's not Jen.

I can't be too mad about HotD, the last two eps were such dogshit that I'm not even sure it deserves its outstanding drama nomination.

Good luck with that - she’s not in it! :basil:

Sir Elton John might become an EGOT if he wins Best Variety Special (Live) for a televised concert from his farewell tour.

The thread title is weird, I didn't realise only three programmes got nominated :tongueout:

Despite the smaller cast, I suspect House of the Dragon wasn't helped by the fact the one main character changed actress halfway through, plus it felt like a lot of world building.

If I remember rightly GoT didn't start getting any acting noms until a couple of seasons in. Not that I'm expecting this to replicate it exactly, but I think a few will come in time

They are definitely treating it similar to GOT in terms of they recognise it but sneering a bit at the acting noms because fantasy.

I don’t care what anyone says, regarding the quality of any of the episodes, what genre it is, what period it was released or what it’s up against, Emma D’Arcy should have absolutely been nominated without question.

Even Olivia Cooke gave us a masterclass in passive aggression and should have been considered. When you think back to those iconic scenes in the early / mid part of the series, it was all the scene shredding performances that people talked about.

Rhea Seehorn's role in Better Call Saul is clearly more than a supporting one.

I saw a piece in the Guardian yesterday bemoaning Sarah Goldberg being overlooked for Barry. I would agree with that, she was the best thing about the final season for me.

I’m surprised Schmigadoon! was snubbed for Original Song especially after they won last year. I’m not sure Ed Sheeran deserves a nomination :manson:

Out of the HBO comedies Barry definitely deserves its nominees but I’m surprised at Somebody Somewhere not getting any.

It’s almost ridiculous that almost every character from Succession and White Lotus is nominated. :disco:

I'm here for the nods for 'Only Murders in the Building' - a hugely underrated series.
