Gabrielle - A Place In Your Heart [new album] (1 Viewer)

Announced her 2025 tour today - is going to be playing the O2 arena for the first time ever which seems… brave of them?! But I guess they know how much she’s sold in her previous venues and hazarding a guess that reducing the tour dates and putting a couple of bigger venues in might pay off.

They are SO blacking out the top tier...

Ha ha! I’m absolutely sure of it! But it’s still pretty cool.

I sometimes wonder how she’s managed to have the career she has… you don’t see Dina Carroll or Des’ree or any of the other 90s pop singers enjoying anything like the success she still has 30 years on.

Yeah but DINA'S GONE DEAF and Des'ree's got her pottery, so...

To be fair, even back in the 90s, Gabrielle was always a commercial tier or two above Dina.

Des doesn't need to worry about touring. Whenever she's short of a few bob, there's always someone to sue for plagiarism!

But I do think the Masked Singer gamble really paid off for Gabrielle - one of those acts that everybody has a lot of goodwill for when they think of her, but they just need a reminder of her existence now and then!

Yeah and had a lovely couple of minutes on the sofa afterwards. Came across really well. :)

She WAS predictably lovely, but unfortunately her performance led me to the conclusion that this new single really isn’t very good. :(

As she gets older covering her eye with her hair piece must get quite challenging, I was impressed how it didn't move AN INCH despite how much she moved her head back and forth.

The new single is rubbish :( I want very much to still like her music. Hopefully the album will have more to offer.

I actually liked it quite a lot more hearing it live funnily enough.

I really don't like it. It came on my music radar and at first I thought it was one of those fake producers that attach themselves to artist profiles to get streams. The production sounds so CHEAP. I wish she would flirt with her R&B roots just a little bit...

Sorry appears to have been remixed quite a lot for the album - much more punchy as it goes into the chorus (especially the 3rd chorus - 80s sounding electric guitar and big strings) - heard it played in this interview around 1 hr 20 mins in.

Gabrielle saying she's considering bringing the eye patch back. :D I really hope she does. It's such a small thing, but it absolutely marked her career despite only wearing it for that one year.

Two best songs on the album for me are Good Enough (with Mahalia) and Feel. The latter has a lovely melody on the chorus that just conjures up a real ache of the heart. 😢

Overall obviously it’s not a massive departure though Change and A Place In Your Heart do provide the slightly rockier sound and Good Enough and Taken Over sound far more r’n’b than we’re used to from Gabs. The rest are mostly mid-tempo/ballady love songs as you’d expect.

I thought this was a terrible album. Just chock full of plodding, maudlin ballads.

I just keep harking back to songs like Going Nowhere and Because Of You and thinking, would it really KILL her to give us just a couple of midtempo groovy bops that made her famous in the first place?

I think there are 4 or 5 really good ones personally. Obviously I’m biased. 😂

The Mahalia duet is excellent (Good Enough) - and has almost got as many plays on Spotify as Sorry already (she should have pushed for that to be the single).

I’m loving Change, Lifeline, Feel…

Yeah no chance of top 10 with an 11 start. She's so front loaded these days.

Not that it'll be much comfort, but I assume it's top ten at least on sales?

I think it mostly shows how much Masked Singer did for her in 2021. Do It Again got to No.4! So this is a real knock back down to earth. Her lowest charting studio album before this was No.11.

I doubt it will bother her too much though - she's more of a touring artist these days and sells a decent amount of tickets. She's certainly doing a lot more than most of her 90s contemporaries are.

Yeah, disappointing but at this stage I think she'll just be happy to be releasing albums. I wonder how much of her o2 show will sell or is selling..

I honestly think it will sell fine. It's only one night and she does seem to be more of a live act than a singles or album act these days.

I went to see LeAnn Rimes recently there and the top tier was curtained off...so it still looks big and impressive but probably approx 12k instead of 22k capacity

Thing about Gabrielle though, even though nobody gives a shit about her new music, she still has a very impressive singles catalogue in the UK. The question is, has the album given her enough promo for people to even know she has a gig at the o2? Because I do believe she could fill it with enough promo.

Well I am sure they will be going out of their way to promote it -given it'll make more money than the album!

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure they haven't even sold the top tier tickets.

How long has the tour been on sale? Just noticed you can still get second row VIP tickets in Cardiff, or about 10 rows back for standard full price.

I guess it's still ten months away. Perhaps they need to chuck out another compilation for Christmas.

Yeah I feel like a Gabrielle tour in larger venues would fill trickling through rather than a stampede at the start :D I also imagine they don't have overheads of large sets etc...just a live band and small tour crew. She should get away with it

Having just watched her set on BBC Radio 2 in the Park, I had a look on Ticketmaster to see how her Arena tour was selling.

She probably should have stuck to theatres. :(

I just looked at Cardiff again after doing so in June, as posted above.

Three months later and you're one row further back. Unless you want VIP, and then you can now get front row again.
