It feels like a start. An abuse of power, fuelled by racism, that cost a man his life is having real consequences.

I’m so relieved and pleasantly surprised. I still think policing here is racist and fucked up and I’m not sure this will change much but still it’s nice to have things go the right way for once

The reason they declare on all levels is because of appeal processes. If they only convict on the highest and the defense get a technical appeal on that one count, then the defendant walks free. Hence guilty on what is essentially all three levels of the same charge. One minor technical flaw can get a verdict thrown out as unlawful.
