Ireland 2024: Bambie Thug - Doomsday Blue

It's decent for what it is, a pseudo-anthemic boyband midtempo that's more along the lines of The Wanted than Westlife.

The vocals are good, it's got a bit of life to it and they seem like nice lads.

🥴
They’re going to send that one aren’t they.

I am a bit scared about Erica and the boyband having powerful label/management backing versus independent Bambie

I suspect the international Euro-nerd jury will give Doomsday Blue their 12 points but it'll flounder with the televote and be somewhere middling in the domestic jury rank.

Erica vs Next In Line head-to-head ahoy 🥴🥴🥴

I noticed Erica Cody on the UK NMF for what it is worth.

I wonder what kind of live vocal she will deliver, the studio version does not instill me with confidence.

There’s no way an in-studio ’expert’ jury made up of Linda Martin, Mark Feehily and Caroline Corr are going to be won over by either of the two remotely daring entries.

WELL Jedward were on it last year weren't they? I can absolutely see them going for something rather OUTRÉ

Ireland have got two potential "qualifiers/maybe even could do quite well" entrants in AILSHA and Bambie Thug..the idea that they might throw it away on Erica or Louis Walshs latest act is depressing.

'The recording is first class and I know their presentation will be superb. It's by far the standout song.'

‘It’s not me, it’s Linda…’

There's a ghost in my body and she is a panellist
It is Linda Martin and I think she can't resist
She won before?
She gives off total Y&L stepmom vibes. Her complete cluelesness of what makes a good Eurovision song and her flagrant delusion just sends me :D

I'm sure she's lovely though.

I've not followed Eurosong before - How is the vote determined? Is it just public or are there juries involved?

There’s a public vote, an international jury and an Irish jury, each of which makes up a third of the vote.

There is an in-studio panel giving their inane thoughts on the songs after each performance but that is not the Irish jury - they have no voting rights.

A reminder of Mr. Louis Walsh being BITTER and JEALOUS of beloved SINGING HAIRDRESSER Dawn Martin in 1998. :D :eyes:

The Birmingham Post said:
Dawn has suddenly had to deal with a lot of attention. The ultimate accolade of success in Ireland, an appearance on Gay Burn's The Late, Late Show is imminent and she has suddenly had a rush of customers to the salon, "wanting to see the Eurovisiongirl ".

However her achievement has also had its critics. She had not been the favourite to win Ireland's Eurosong contest. Boyzone's Ronan Keating had penned the favoured entry which was sung by Irish stars The Carter Twins.

But when Dawn captured the hearts and votes of the public and beat The Carter Twins into fourth place, Boyzone manager Louis Walsh slammed the contest as an "amateur talent show" .

These testimonies all remind me of some talent competition formats from my childhood. Has the Irish Eurosong been some kind of mentor reality show before?

If so, I'm totally here for Linda Martin being part of it. She feels like some deluded, faded star who now only gets screen time to grab headlines with her outrageous persona. Not ideal for selecting a Eurovision entry but if they're aiming for a NQ they might as well do it in style!

The latest from Eurovisionworld for what it's worth 🥴

Nice to see The Boyband classed as NO HOPERS at least!

Horrifyingly, this clashes with the final episode of The Traitors on Friday :(

What a Sophie's choice between the peak of modern reality television and one of the very worst (but most compelling) spectacles of national final season.

Haven't heard any of the other songs but I definitely need BAMBIE THUG to win. I'm really loving the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness in the name, very Madonna Hard Candy. :)
