Japan anime studio arson attack

Not sure if anyone on Moopy is especially interested in anime, but the arson attack in Japan which appears to have killed many people certainly caught my attention this morning.

It's the studio that did A Silent Voice a few years ago and also the infamously homoerotic Free! Iwatobi Swim Club anime.

Crazy story. Apparently they'd been getting death threats for years

I wonder why they got death threats. I mean while Japanese people are conservative, they’re not at the burning gays stage as far as I can tell.

Did they publish something particularly problematic?

I think they had been accused of plagiarism by some Internet crazies but I read that on reddit so take it with a pinch of salt.
