I'd actually forgotten about this until her name appeared in the press last week with her former partner and composer of most of her hits telling her to go fuck herself and not sing his songs anymore on a Facebook post and then coming out a few days later claiming he'd been hacked. Er right.

Anyway, the mini-Celine's attempt at international fame after three successful French albums didn't really accomplish very much outside a #1 on the US Dance chart, but what a vocal, and from the same team that did Cher's "Believe".

Didn't someone low-rent like K-Llo do a cover of this relatively recently?

It basically killed what was left of her career, and her former N-Trance bandmate Kevin O'Toole said she looked like an old slapper in the video on the official AATW messageboard.

Kelly Llorenna had an alarming trait of covering all my favourite songs REALLY FUCKING BADLY. This included, cause it's ace. And I never understand why it wasn't huge...

How strange, I was listening to Fabian's English back-cat yesterday. I really like "No Big Deal"

and "Conquered"

If you're a fan of turn-of-the-century international female pop like I am (Delta Goodrem, Ellie Campbell, Alsou) then I would highly recommend browsing through the "Wonderful Life" and "Lara Fabian" albums.

I'm having a bit of a revival with this. It really reminds me of being a child and it still makes me feel so happy.

It was oddly EVERYWHERE in NZ. Made the top 10 and was all over radio. Didn't care much for it at the time but the last few years I've come round to it. It truly is fab.

I was just listening to the Steps version and as nice as it is to hear, it really is just a note for note cover, even down to the ad-libs. And Lara is a far better singer.

This still makes my piss boil to this day.

Lara's version is gorgeous, the silky Metro pulse is unmistakable. Cher would faint trying to huff her lungs out to it - if only :disco:

An absolutely OUTSTANDING song, and the best of all the late 90s/early 00s diva dance songs.

Steps picked a good song to cover, and it's a great version, not quite up there, but a decent stab.

Lara I feel is very underrated, Celine took all the glory, starting back in 1988 in Dublin, but she is a cracking vocalist.

I finally heard it live in 2017 :disco: Such a choon. Her voice does disco just as well as the big ballads

I've actually never heard anything of hers besides this song, but that makes me want to listen to more. And see her live.

I warn you that it's a bit of an anomaly in her back catalogue - I know at the time some bought the parent album based on I Will Love Again and were like 'WTF is this?'. Oh and also about 70% of her back catalogue is in French :disco:

Any album in particular you would start with? If not, I'll just listen to the English one first.

If you want to see where I Will Love Again was born, the first English album. There are some great songs on there but really none of them are like I Will Love Again

If you want to see what made her big, and you like bellowy French ballads, I'd do Pure and Nue.

And if you like something a little more modern (but also French), then Papillon, which is the latest one and actually rather good.

I'm very biased though because I'm a big Lara fan so I'm sorry if you don't like any of it :D

Well I'm loving Immortelle (from Nue) with all its drama, so I think I'll continue down that path. Thank you!
