Marina - Cupid's Girl / Cuntissimo

Sad that her caterpillar* promo blitz seems not to have broken the internet.

* Dead now of course.

Wait, she posted caterpillars? That’s not nice

Sounds like grimes without the unfortunate feeling of grime you get from listening to HER these days. Much excite!

Nice chorus but so far it’s a bit generic Marina.
It’s not going to do anything for her but at this point she’d need a miracle anyway.

it's taken me a few plays but i'm on board with this now. Marina does what she does and this doesn't try anything new but the chorus pops. I want some more of her lower range on the new music though.

This feels very much like”unused demo from last two albums with a new chorus tacked in”.

I like it though but it’s so familiar.

Oh wow I don't think I was even aware of this campaign. I have literally seen nothing in my usual gay circles...

Cupid is out... and well it's there. I'm a huge Marina Stan but am so disappointed with both singles so far this era 😔

CUPID’S GIRL (I hate these trends to give titles in caps) is much more like it.

she didn't. it's the "cupid, you're so stupid" part that's followed by the post chorus instrumental

I don't think I am ever going to be a fan of her the way I was in the early days, but this is definitely an improvement over Butterfly, which managed to be both irritating and uninteresting.
This is how I feel right now sadly. Also found Buttefly irritating.

The last album was a return to form of sorts after the rather bland Love & Fear, but these 2 singles seem another step back. I'll still be there at the tour naturally but she just isn't bringing the Marina magic of old to these ears.

Never been a huge Marina fan but just looked at her Spotify and her play counts for her first two albums are so bizarre.

How does Bubblegum Bitch have over 700m streams - 200m more than Primadonna?

And from the first album, Are You Satisfied and Oh No are on 261m and 316m, while Hollywood and Not a Robot are only around 30m each.

How did all those album tracks and minor hits get such huge numbers and outpace the songs which (to my mind at least) she’s actually known for?

Is it just the standard answer that she’s really big on TikTok?

She was one of the early stream pop artists though wasn’t she? I’m always impressed by her numbers

she's constantly had different songs going semi-viral I think but Bubblegum Bitch has been arguably her signature song for years now. the crowd at her shows treat it, Primadonna and Heartbreaker like #1 hits.

it predates tiktok - there is a cult around Electra Heart and it seems to be the starting point for anyone getting into Marina late.

I definitely miss 2009-2013 Marina. Froot never grabbed me and I've remained ungrabbed ever since although the last album was a BIT better. Her live shows around that time were just incredible.

Those songs have been used a lot for Tik Tok videos. I suspect it's informed her songwriting for the new album. The pitched up, super straightforward choruses we've got so far seem like she's quite self-consciously chasing Tik Tok vitality. That's fine though really. Electra Heart was obviously chasing after a Katy Perry style radio hit and that's her best album.

obsessed. hopefully this billboard will turn out to be the album cover
