New Music Fridays 2023

@funky the gag of this thread for me is that all of the music you like stays within a very safe perimeter doesn’t it…no wonder you find Eurovision and general pop music so bewildering :disco:

I don’t even know what this means, care to explain?

Although I did check back at one recent post to try and understand and in one post alone my recommendations span 5 different genres

So… yeah.

I don't know who she is but those fucking track lengths? girl. at least Ava fed us like 3 songs over 3 minutes.

The new Donna Missal song is excellent, very Polachek on the chorus but love those jumpy, skittish verses too:

I'm not sure if anyone cares, maybe @funky, but the Tyler, The Creator released the deluxe version of Call Me If You Get Lost, and the video for Sorry Not Sorry is one of his best. I'm listening to the new songs now. I think they'll take a couple listens for me to get them

He’s like Lamar for me - I appreciate from afar but generally he’s a bit too abstract for me to sit and listen to. I like a certain vibe from hip hop, not necessarily the artistes that I know are super talented. He’s definitely one of the best right now and I like to listen to his stuff.

Assuming you mean Kendrick Lamar, I kind of feel that way about him too. I loved his first two albums, and some other songs since, but he's lost me a bit.

Tyler just keeps getting better though. And I find him super engaging/likable/cute(:horny:) and also is interesting to listen to. You can just tell he's so smart and creative

Pre-New Music Friday. What a gorgeous and lovely new song from Sarah Klang:

LAUREL returns. It sounds like it would fit right on her last EP but that was great so fair enough:

Some catchy childhood trauma from The Drums:

New music from Satin Jackets

Also a big fan of 70s revival band PREP

ENNY is SO talented, and I always love Loyle. Alternative Hip-Hop in the UK is very strong right now

This is very Anna of the North, it has that same smooth easy feeling about it:

Her past couple of singles are pretty good too.

The new one from Ekkah is really good, and has even more of a pop fizz than their usual. I assume they are still very slowly building to an album or EP or something as the previous two tracks released are added to the single:

The most hyped band in London who hadn't released anything until this week, or so I read. There's definitely a bit of Florence in there, a touch of Siouxsie too and a pretty memorable chorus:

I was so happy when I saw Ekkah on my playlist Friday. A welcome return.

These have a new album coming right? I'm liking this. It's giving me Cannons vibes. I like how it crosses between synthwave and alternative.

Still think Lupe is the most underrated rapper alive today. Amazing how we doesn't get recognised any more among the best of the best.

This is MUCH better than the last couple of singles IMO which I haven't gotten into

Yes their third album is out beginning of June. Love the new song, it is a bit Hatchie-esque in that nineties indie way.

I'll get to this at some point but those track lengths make me feel vaguely ill

Avalon Emerson album is out. Karaoke Song is just great and the closing track is an absolute dream of a sparkly, shimmery 8 minute atmospheric dance tune. so good.

Love this, for once I am untroubled by the short running time:

'I am evolved'... Bethany from Best Coast sounding a bit nineties Sheryl on her solo debut:

Lola Young was on the hyped artists lists last year I think. It doesn’t seem to have quite panned out but the label seem to be pressing ahead with the album anyway. The singles have been a bit mixed, but I really like this one:

The chorus of this sounds very much like something else which I can't place, though I doubt that whatever song that was also included a line about playing Michael Bolton on repeat:

What a gorgeous song:

New Jorja Smith. Very catchy, though the last minute or so doesn't do much:

Lovely bit of smooth disco from KAMILLE:

The new DRAMA song is gorgeous and a definite improvement on their last single. Wonderful midtempo groove and lovely disco strings:

I was a bit disappointed with the new Honey. effort after What Now but it has its charms:

Quite ridiculous:

I’ll get round to these tonight as I love a @FetchFugly update as much as the next person with taste, but I just wanted to pop in and say I LOVE the new Tensnake track :o

the new Tensnake is with the very underrated Jessy Lanza who also has a new album coming. it's a bop. but I'm still ALL OVER Do It Right.

Yes I like the new Tensnake song. When is the album (and the return of Fiora) going to be announced though?

They’ve practically released an album already! What’s the album going to contain, two new tracks?

Maybe we’re getting a double album :disco:
