Paris 2024 - Day 1 (Sat 27 July) (1 Viewer)

Can't decide whether to succumb and get Discovery+/ Eurosports. The BBC only have football and rugby on.

The arse close-ups of these cyclists in the men's individual time trial is making up for every time you've driven past one and just missed getting the glimpse you were after.

I thought the BBC showed everything on the red button. Is that not the case this year?

No, the BBC are only allowed a certain amount of live content with all the other live stuff restricted to streaming on Discovery+. It used to all be on the BBC but money.

The BBC are limited to showing two live events at a time across all their platforms. I guess they're going to be showing a lot of stuff via replay when the athletics is on, but then they usually do that to a certain extent anyway. It's the niche/long-distance events that are likely to suffer most, I'd guess.

It's also going to make it difficult for them to properly advertise a schedule of their coverage because they'll want to follow the GB medal chances, but that's going to mean potentially taking something else off at short notice.

I had loads of adverts too on the cycling earlier…

So BBC have the same event on as Discovery+ currently.

Are they simply limited to one channel and two streams, plus highlights?

Matt Ebden is a 36 year old doubles specialist who hasn’t played a singles match in almost two years. That match would only tell us anything if Djokovic wasn’t battering him.
Why was Ebden chosen for singles in the first place if he's a doubles specialist? I didn't see any late withdrawals.

The BBC set-up is exactly the same as for Tokyo. Did lots of people just FORGET?

Sometime things are so stupid and frustrating, the only thing you can do is forget.

The good news is that 2024 is the end of the current rights cycle.

The bad news is, they’ve already announced 2028 and 2032, the BBC have exactly the same rights. They were even boasting about it as if we should be grateful.

It was probably less obvious due to the time difference. They replayed quite a lot of events that were likely to have been missed overnight.

I guess I shouldn't moan as I am not paying for it and maybe it is because I am watching it through my Sky box, but the Discovery+ app is really slow and clunky to navigate.

I am sure it will come in handy later but for now it has driven me back to the familiar arms of Clare Balding on the BBC.

Went from being disgusted by Adam Peaty's awful tattoos to getting all teary over him winning his semi in the space of 30 seconds

GO ON MY SON, BRING IT HOME

Those poor buggers who are going to have to swim off for the 8th qualifying place.

I don’t even know what this is referring to, but I do love Michael Johnson

Some Team USA team member from another sport posted a picture with Noah Lyles and said “got to meet the fastest man alive” on Insta and the world generally called it out, followed by moronic American Twitter all having a breakdown.

Chuffed for Anna Henderson in the Women's TT. She's a top 5-10 rider on an even day, so she's done really well and had a good slice of luck to get there.
