What else to say about Liechtenstein? It really is very pretty. After my hike of near doom, I spent a couple of hours calming my nerves in Vaduz, which is basically one quite nice street and a 20 minute walk up to the Prince's castle, which he actually lives in so you can't go inside.

This morning before I moved on I popped over to the other main settlement of Schaan just to see if there was anything worth seeing there. There categorically was not.

I'm in Basel now, where last night saw quite the culture clash when the descent of the Eurogays on the city ran into a massive victory for the local Swiss team (FCB) who apparently won the Swiss league for the first time since 2017, causing the entire city centre to go absolutely FERAL. Despite the temptation of a Jedward set at the Euroclub, I decided to have an early night to avoid the mayhem, and also because to save money I'm staying a fair way out of town in a guest house that's been set up in a working monastery*.

On arrival at said Monastery, I very quickly twigged something I probably should have realised sooner, which is that it is also an active care home for the elderly. My first clue was when I was greeted at reception by a lovely man in nurse's scrubs. The second was when my suspiciously spacious walk-in shower came with a stool.

It is very nice, and I'm going to either be dead or back in a 30" waist by the end of the week as there's a 40 minute hike uphill every night in near pitch darkness from where the bus terminates to the, ahem, facility.

Reminds me of when I used to have a hotel in Bristol when I worked in Wales and would regularly book the same one through hotels.com and despite them not putting it ANYWHERE, it somehow always auto-allocated me a disabled room, with lovely big shower, stool...but also mirrors at waist height and everything else REALLY FUCKING LOW, which for someone able of my height doesn't really work.

Maybe you could arrange a watch party with the nuns and in-patients. I reckon they'll love Sister Erika and 'Ich Komme'.
