Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 12: Albania, Belgium & Spain

Awww whilst Juliana and her EXTREMELY FLICKY HAIR makes sense as a winner, I was hoping for Ktheju Tokës as a sort of Pokemon evolution of the screamy woman entries Albania has been sending over the past 10 years.

For about 4 of these entries I gave points at TOTAL RANDOM tbh - they are all literally the same song (and I could barely remember ANY of them :D ) I think World got my highest marks on account of her attempt to somewhat SELL THE SONG

I don't see why Fairytale was so poorly rated, it's the best of the various variants they've sent.

Right, sorry, had another pub quiz to host.

I can do Belgium now and Spain tomorrow or save both for tomorrow evening. (I have no plans tomorrow evening so can start at a reasonable hour)

It's past midnight here and I'm not sure who's around right now. I'm ok with saving both for tomorrow.

I'm around, but were having a lot of fun in the scavenger hunt in case you're too knackered.

Belgium

10th: Alex Hirsoux - Mother (18pts)

I tend to operate on the assumption that Belgians are fairly similar to us Brits, culture-wise. Politically dysfunctional, love their beer and chips, tendency to run to fat. But the fact that this song not only won a public selection, but appears to have briefly become something of a cause celebre remains a source of utter bafflement. I mean if it had come out of, say, Romania, then sure. But BELGIUM?

It's possible that Ruslana was somewhat to blame, the crafty bitch took a seat on the judging panel for Belgium's national selection that year, and was so profoundly moved by this that presumably the Flanderseses were tricked into thinking they were onto a winner.

Strangely enough, the vision of an egg-shaped Norman Bates begging for a return to the comfort of the maternal teat while a ghostly crone pranced around behind him did not have the wider European viewing audience tearfully waving their lighters, and poor Axel was sent packing in the semis. The whereabouts of the mother remain a mystery.

Highest score: 6 (David_5000)
13 x 0 (Ill Advised, sewerynsven, Kalabaliken, Win the Game, Ag, Alla, Kevin, Madison, Kevin7, Jacques, Buttertart, Suomi, Pingu)

I mean within the context of their top down commitment to paedophila, this makes complete sense.

Belgium was mostly quite good but contained two of the bigger horrors of the entire competition. I very much hope that Witless Bay will be along next.

9th: Witloof Bay - With Love (24pts)

We're living in uncertain times, but if there's one universal truth we can all hold onto, it is that a capella singing is the devil's music, the sole preserve of freaks, virgins and serial killers and the worst thing to happen to humanity since organised religion.

This is another one that absolutely stormed a domestic final, which is really making me wonder what psychological toll was exacted during Belgium's famously stoic resistance during WW2. Who in their right mind would vote for this? Who, upon hearing it, would ever want to hear it again?

The worst thing about this bunch of reprobates and GCSE music teachers is the stench of unearned smugness that inevitably emanates from this sort of thing. Like, great, you can all stay in tune without a backing track. Call me when you get laid or qualify. Or better yet, don't.

Highest score: 4 (David_500 - u ok hun?)
6 x 0 (VoR, Tischlampe, Penelope, Dark Carnival, wurst, dmlaw)

It was the 'chikki-chikki BREAKDOWN' (:zombie:!) beatboxer bit that sent me out in hives and forced me to abandon ship on listening to it. FUCKING HORRENDOUS and I HOPE THEY'RE ALL DEAD!
