Queen Elizabeth II DEAD

The BBC YouTube stream of her funeral has had 8.8 million plays.
I was wondering about that earlier with the low viewing figures for the announcement of her death. Increasingly people won't be choosing to turn the TV on as the way of catching up on breaking news, even if you want to watch it rather than read or listen.

I imagine a lot of people clicked on the notification and watched the feed of the broadcast in the BBC or Sky app. I presume such things aren't included in figures.

I wouldn't have thought so. The barb figures (usually) include viewing on phones, tablets etc, but I'm fairly that's only of iPlayer broadcasts, not rolling coverage.

Looking at the YouTube stats which is the only indication so far, the BBC funeral stream is on 9.3 million streams.

The ITV stream of the coffin procession on Wednesday is on 6.9 million.

Normal news clips on YouTube aren't especially high normally and might get a few million if they go viral.

Obviously these are international numbers but it suggests to me that interest was probably pretty high across the board. She might not beat Diana because of the whole cross platform world we live in but it will likely still be very high.

Worth mentioning though that you only need to watch 30 seconds for a YouTube view to count.

13 million watched Prince Phillips funeral. That was a sunny day, the shops were open (covid dependent) and he was far less interesting and popular. This was a captive audience. Everything was closed so people could watch it. At a guess from the barely existent info, doubling that would probably be a safe bet.

No wonder the girlies are mad.

Phil and Holly have APOLOGISED and said like many reporters they were escorted a different way and did NOT take anyones place in the Queue as they went a different way from the carpeted route. :eyes:

And actually, looking at the footage again, you can see they are with the black suited people against the wall, so they are clearly telling the truth. If people have a problem, then it is the organisers to blame for inviting them, not Phil and Holly themselves

Please know we would never ~*jump a queue*~

I love a bit of faux outrage so I hope this rumbles on anyway. Perhaps with some shonky footage of Phil marching to the front of Rita Queen of Speed at Alton Towers from 10 years a go.

And anyway Phil loves to interview his guests in a way that he can obtain an outrageous clickbait headline for the socials and now he’s starring in his very own :disco:

It’s all good fun though. I have rewatched this countless times :D

I hadn’t seen the footage, and looking at it you are right. What they are saying does seem to ring true. The comparisons with David Beckham and Susanna Reid are unfair as they weren’t filming for a broadcaster so should have been joining the Queue like everyone else. 🤷‍♀️

I thought the whole Holly and Phil WIMBLEDONGATE throughout COVID was far more a case of them pulling the wool over the publics eyes than this.

I think the Holly/Phil situation became clear reasonably quickly, but seeing the online outrage over it was amusing. And not dissimilar to Meghan Markle and racism, in that in some quarters there was a lot of latent misogyny and homophobia coming out in the comments, together with the ongoing deification of David Beckham.

It's been grating on my nerves today to hear about how hard-working she was. While that may be, the average person certainly works harder, but will never be recognised for such by these channels and institutions.

Blegh, sorry, having a moment.
She worked 31 years past state pension age. Of all the things to criticise her for, this would be low down on the list.

I keep hearing about all these BRAVE PEOPLE. What about our own POOR BRAVE @Ellie?
:wownic:

I swear apart from maybe two people I know, everyone else is falling apart at the slightest hurdle. COVID/Lockdown has screwed up a lot of people in many ways. Every day I am thankful that it hasn’t really affected me.

I'm not criticising her here but the endless bootstraps and sharp elbows talk for the ordinary folk, especially in this cost of living crisis. And I'd still wager the average pensioner 'works' harder and certainly less comfortably.
