Corrie 2024

NOOOOOO!!!

Hopefully she marries another psycho but this time he kills her off. She HAS to go with a bang, surely.

I'm not sure I can see them killing her off...but it does beg the question of how else to credibly write her out when her entire family lives nearby.

I didn’t read the whole twitter post that Ill Advised posted. She isn’t leaving until the end of the year but starts filming her exit storyline next month? Would that mean she will be onscreen until next year? I am thinking possibly a terminal illness. :(

OT slightly but I don’t know why she went back to the long hair she sported in the 90’s. Her shorter hair suited her so much better in the 00’s.

Has it been explained where has Gail been lately? He absence during recent Platt events, and that of Audrey, has been pretty jarring.

I don’t think it HAS. They are very much sideline characters these days but Gail more so than Audrey I would say. I think that is part of the reason why Corrie has been so unwatchable for the past while.

It sounds like she'll be on-screen until the end of the year.

I really wish she was leaving when the writing wasn't generally so SHIT. It saddens me that Gail's legacy, as far as the last few years go, will be as a bumbling side-character.

It's a shame about Gail, I thought she'd stay for a while yet. Saying that, they've ruined her nowadays though. She was once a serious character and when you watch old clips compared to now it's like watching a completely different person! Helen deserves better. They won't kill her off so i'm not sure what they have planned. Back to Thailand I suppose?

Can't stand this stuff with Leanne, it's just taking the piss. The old Leanne would never get involved in something like that imo

And then there's killer Joel. The whole show has changed so much now and not for the better. I don't think we'll ever see a great era for Corrie again and in the next few years Ken and Rita will be gone most likely. It will be interesting to see what kind of state the show is in by the 70th anniversary in 2030

I do love Dee Dee though, best new character in years for me

I also love

Gail: Oh yeah, you'll never have a seedy little affair. But you might hit me over the face with a shovel!
Richard: Nooooo! Never! :D

The Richard Hillman storyline worked so well because even though it was dark for Corrie there was a lot of great camp Corrie comedy intertwined in it aswell with great writers back then. Like the "You & Me" song playing as he drove them into the canal. I think it's my fave storyline actually or definitely up there

Absolutely loathe the current Leanne storyline, the subsequent reveal that she was talking to an AI rendition of her deceased child was grotesque and cheapens all the good work they did pre-pandemic.

The next big story will presumably be Paul succumbing to his MND followed by Gail's departure.

Big LOL at Michael and Glenda though, that was an amusing surprise.

I have to admit I'm really starting to like DS Swain's character! I think she has all the potential to be one of the strong female greats that Corrie is so famous for.

Howcome Doctor Badass never said to Hope it was illegal to have sex at her age?

Paul is due to die within the next few weeks, have to say I think he (and Corrie) have done this story justice. One of the few decent stories from the show in the past year

Well done Corrie

Sean Wilson now NOT returning as Martin Platt:

Coronation Street have been forced to rewrite Helen Worth's exit scenes - as Sean Wilson sensationally quit the ITV soap.

Sean was due to reprise his role later this year as part of Gail Platt's final storyline this Christmas, when Helen steps down from the ITV soap after five decades on the Cobbles. Martin was originally due to return to help bid farewell to Gail, but that will now not be the case and soap bosses have reportedly rushed to rewrite the exit storyline.

Coronation Street have now confirmed Sean will not appear as Martin in the soap later in the year. In a statement, a spokesperson for Coronation Street told The Mirror : "Sean Wilson has stepped down from filming for personal reasons."

It has been claimed that Helen is gutted that Sean won't be part of her exit storyline, with a source claiming: "It has come as a complete and utter shock to everyone - and his sudden exit has rocked everyone involved with Corrie.

"Sean was loving his time on the show, and he was very popular on set. He had filmed scenes with loads of the cast, but then suddenly he was summoned to head office, and later it filtered out he wouldn’t be returning or his scenes airing, but no explanation offered."

The insider added to The Sun: "Clearly it’s a major blow for bosses who must now find a new magical and happy ending for Helen - but they are confident they’ll pull it out of the bag, and give viewers something wonderful."

No more details have been given about Sean's decision to leave the soap before his scenes air, but just a few weeks ago, Sean shared his excitement about making his return. He said: "It was great to be invited back to Coronation St again, to contribute to Helen’s exit story. We’ll have a few months to catch up with Martin and Gail again, following the ebbs and flows of the unfolding storyline.

"Playing Martin has been a joy since day one and in a way, I’ll be slipping back to where I left off, which no doubt will throw a spanner into the heart of the Platt family. It’s just like slipping on an old and comfortable jumper from the back of the wardrobe."

The details seem a bit sketchy - the article says he left for 'personal reasons' but also says he was enjoying being back and makes it sound like he was fired.

Either way, it's a bit of a disaster for them, given it seems he was pivotal to Gail's exit.

That's surely going to lead to some chaotic results for poor Gail's exit. Can't wait

I hope we get the real reason for his exit from the gutter press ASAP

You just know Gail's exit is gonna be shit :D :(

Just WHAT is going on at Corrie

I don't watch it regularly enough to confirm, but apparently Gail hasn't been on-screen since March in any case.

Sally Ann Matthews made some cryptic comments on an Instagram live about the amount of time she's been off-screen:

"I chose to get on an aeroplane because I'm particularly quiet at work," said Matthews to her fans.

"I've got like a million years off, so I chose to go on an aeroplane. I've been to Cyprus twice in the past five weeks, and we landed last night and we came back."

Adding to the mystery of the situation, Matthews shared even more imminent travel plans: "My next holiday plans are on Saturday. We're going to go off on the boat, and then I'm going to just chill on the boat and do nowt, pretty much."

She also added that she might be on the lookout for a job while abroad: "And then I'm going to go back to Cyprus and do nowt. And at some point, I might get a job and someone might employ me, potentially."

In the case of Jenny, it does just appear that she's one of the (current) victims of the attempts to cut back on cast expenditure by just not having them on-screen - although why Coronation Street keep ADDING characters if they're already in a position of having to rest others makes no sense whatsoever.

It could be the same for Gail. Though, as Helen Worth's departure was quite unexpected, it's possible she'd already started scaling down her work commitments anyway.

I do worry that Audrey won't be far behind Gail - and then we'll just be left with Ken and Rita of the true old guard of Corrie - and both of them are now in their 90s so can't have that many years left.

Who's left from the 80s or 90s?
I assume Kevin and Sally must be the longest running after Ken, Rita and Audrey, who I'm guessing was a 70s character. They are both 80s.

That's assuming they are both still in it, anyway.
