Katy Perry - 143 (Worst Rated Album EVER by a female artist) (2 Viewers)

Can Katy turn things around and snatch a hit?

  • yes, unconditionally

  • sure, it's never really over

  • maybe, by the grace of god

  • potentially, she's a dark horse

  • probably not (self-inflicted)

  • no, now she's just a ghost

this is a woman who doesn't know her own strength and keeps relying on seeking out hits, regardless of the content, just slapping refrigerator magnet-like phrases on some Ava Max adjacent house track that gays will describe as cvnty. meh.

so true.

also, there's sadly no place for sexy Perry in the ageist music industry. she should've launched the era with mature pop à la Ghost/Tsunami with deeper lyrics. this era was dead on arrival the moment we all heard the Woman's World snippet.

It's a shame a lot of her more adult contemporary leaning fare is so insipid of late because with country all over the charts and teenage girls being obsessed with singer-songwritery types like Taylor, Chappel and Mitski, it seems like it could be a great time for Katy to dust off the acoustic guitar.

She seems really eager to recapture 'Teenage Dream' but it's really not going to happen.

I get it and I’m sure it’s hard to go from the highs of Teenage Dream era to flop but she has to realize that the Pop world remains ageist and this just comes off desperate.

I SLIGHTLY disagree. There is place for sexy, fun pop music just like Sabrina, Charli, and Chappell have proven this first half of 2024, but the difference is that their output is unmistakenly them, it's not anonymous and it's not *that* generic; not everyone wants the diaristic, self-written ballads. After years of false starts, the audience is ready to embrace fun pop music again.

in fact this could be a good thing and maybe encourage Taylor, Gaga, and Lana to change it up a bit.

más fuerte para la gente en el fondo de la sala :disco:

Also, Woman's World isn't sexy. It's cringe due to multiple factors - her age not being one of them, actually.

I love how the media is JUST catching onto the idea that half of modern pop is Caucasian gay bait like they've uncovered some conspiracy.

That Dazed description could've been any number of Moopy posts from 2015.

The reality is that pop connoisseurs can afford to be fussy right now because the game is high. I'm amazed how much current pop appeals to me and, as @Pipo rightly points out, it's because of artists who've brought real character to their work. Trying to reheat 2012's leftovers is just not going to cut it. Whether the aim was to compete or just to trigger a nostalgia response to enough people to make a tour good going is moot, you still have to get your song out there and there's just too much stuff with real verve and spark happening for this to cut through.

Katy Perry's best contribution to music is quickly becoming providing music journalists the opportunity to SERVE

I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for her now to be honest. The song is a pretty limp Stupid Love rehash, but people really seem to be taking pleasure in sticking the boot in.

Like, sorry to be a killjoy but is stuff like this really necessary? Is it somehow less misogynistic because she's a bit of a prat?

I think the Doctor Luke thing has really prompted everyone to really stick the boot in, without that angle the song probably would’ve faded into obscurity. This amount of coverage tearing apart a pop song is not normal!

Not sorry to be that person - I think this is absolutely fucking dreadful

Woman's World isn't actually ACTIVELY BAD - it's just a tad reductive

Some of us would have been shouting "QUEEN" if it was Dua Lipa mumbling "sexyconfident" over this basic disco beat

And if she didn’t decide to actively work with Dr Luke I think there would have been some grace given.

I will say I’ve enjoyed exactly 1 Katy Perry song in my life and that was Dark Horse and it was released during what most people would call my ‘lowest ebb’.

I didn't really have an opinion on KP one way or another but she's recently started to give off cuntish vibes and not in a @Jark approved way either.

That I can't argue with

Posthumous Katy best of
