Ceasefire very close!

Disgusting actions from the Hamas soldiers who killed those 6 hostages. Had them in captivity for almost a year and as they were coming to be rescued they were executed.

Depraved behaviour on both sides, what a mess.

Histadrut union, the country's largest labor union, went on strike to pressure Netanyahu for greater efforts to acquire Israeli hostages and call for a cease-fire deal.

I suppose the idea is that we would still supply things that would get used for defense but not things that would be likely to be used offensively - I'm glad, for example, that Israel has the iron dome but very much against what the IDF is doing in Gaza - but I appreciate that's a difficult line to draw.

I think the Iron Dome is pretty much American run and maintained anyway. The UK is such a small contributor to the Israeli war machine that removing a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction seems utterly pointless.

Neither side is notably trustworthy.

It's a political move, not a military one. Likely, the UK is gently reasserting its geopolitical independence on the matter and setting a precedent for future resistance, in case the US and Israel become entitled to UK support.

I didn't realise the scale of this when I saw the headline earlier. Thousands injured in an attack that might have been orchestrated by Israel.

Feels like quite a dangerous escalation too, to conduct a physical attack through devices that plenty of civilians will have too

I am just reading about it on Twitter (soz morals) - looks like somehow Israel has interfered with a supply of pagers to Hezbollah and triggered a remote detonation, there are videos of them going bang and its clearly more than a battery shorting.

Absolute bonkers warfare, Israel is out of control.

The procurement department at Hezbollah clearly not following the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.

It's pretty wild, dare I say it quite innovative.

Curious to know how Israel managed this, the devious fuckers.

The videos all like those clips of exploding vapes that went round when some nefarious media trend tried to turn them into a moral panic.

Israel at this point playing poke the dog with the rest of the world. Seeing how many neighbours it can obliterate before they get their toys taken off them. Not sure what the threshold is when they’ve been openly killing children for months now.

So pretty much confirmed as Israel, 12 dead, set off early using military grade high explosives, planned for when a major assault began. The Thai company who make the papers are blaming a Hungarian firm.

How nice of Israel to bring Hungary and Thailand into their conflict.

From what I've read the battery pack also contained an explosive that was triggered by a code sent to the pagers designed to overheat the battery.

Morality aside it's very clever, but it's an egregious war crime. If Israel isn't sanctioned heavily over this they may as well just nuke the entire middle east and be done with it.

Another three killed, hundreds more injured. It's literally state sponsored terrorism with potential deniability.

Take today’s story and swap out any mention of Israel with North Korea or Iran. Imagine that playing out.

Do we reckon the West would have the same SILENT response?

No I don’t either.

If Israel don't launch an attack, within about 12 hours it really is a wasted opportunity.
