I approve of her sensibly blocking the US from shot, and dressing like a stern central European

Disassociative queen!

Why are we even excluding a soundtrack as her success though? I don't see The Bodyguard being erased from the successsful part of Whitney's chart legacy, just because it was a soundtrack. It seems like for Gaga people are regulalrly trying to look for a reason why something isn't 'her' success, a hit is a hit is a hit, and Star Is Born soundtrack was huge for her.

Also re the collabs, I don't know the stats, but looking at the charts these days collabs seem almost as common as solo tracks. Therefore if everyone else is scoring hits this way, why is it not a success fpr Gaga when Gaga does so? Sure she benefitted from Ariana a bit with ROM, but I would say DWAS success is as much down to her as Bruno.
Very that. Diminishing the success of Shallow and ARUTW is like saying I Will Always Love You and I'm Every Woman didn't smash because they were covers from a movie. Both songs unlocked a huge new audience for Gaga, and they are absolutely HER classics (the entire stadium singing EVERY WORD to to both at the Chromatica Ball would argue that they are bigger hits than Poker Face and Bad Romance at this point).

If we want to talk about cheap duets for a hit, we're nowhere near Against All Odds (w/ Westlife), and even that is iconic in its utter shamelessness. The whole discourse smacks of the distasteful "Mariah and her rent-a-rappers" turn-of-the-century smears. In the end, people forget the context, and just remember whether a) the song was huge and b) more importantly, whether they liked it.

Very that. Diminishing the success of Shallow and ARUTW is like saying I Will Always Love You and I'm Every Woman didn't TECHNICALLY smash because they were covers from a movie. Both songs unlocked a huge new audience for Gaga, and they are absolutely HER classics (the entire stadium singing EVERY WORD to to both at the Chromatica Ball would argue that they are bigger hits than Poker Face and Bad Romance at this point).

I don't think anyone is saying that Shallow is from a movie therefore doesn't = standalone success for Gaga. Just that Movie Gaga and Pop Gaga are made for different audiences, so it's nice for the latter to be getting some recognition and cross-appeal. It does feel like it's a while.

The Whitney comparison is perfectly apt, but I Will Always Love You appealed just as much to her mainstream fans to as her existing hits. I wouldn't say Shallow was the same for Gaga.

I forget, how did Chromatica perform commercially? Especially compared to her peers?
it was overshadowed in sales and cultural impact by Future Nostalgia without a doubt, especially as both were seen as danceable pandemic albums. Dua scored essentially 3 massive global hits that endured for 18 months plus local hits in between (Physical, Fever etc) whereas Chromatica felt dead once Rain on Me was done.

it was one of those not a flop, not a particular success (by the artist's own standards) kind of albums - kind of like Radical Optimism, ironically.

It's sad that in this day and age young gays are not able to experience full-fledged single campaigns anymore. With little to no outlets or platforms to do some decent promo, our faves are reduced to a YouTube show where you eat CHICKEN WINGS while chatting about something insightful, like songwriting.

I miss the days when we would have Fergie doing cartwheels at 8 am, Hilary Duff doing some mid, half-arsed dance-break, or Mariah threatening her "backup singers" to stop singing HER PART!

oh well, eating is the promo :disco:

I love Hot Ones because, while it’s a silly gimmick, he’s always asked really great questions.

She looks amazing 🤩

filmed in December - she looks super natural here? makes me wonder if when we see her on the red carpet etc she's wearing face tape for the snatched look.

I don't usually watch Hot Ones. I feel like this was... a very traumatic experience for her. like, she fucking hated it. :D

the applause of the crew on the end credit sent me. I'm sure an assistant got fired after this.
