Adolescence (A Netflix Series)

Watched the first three episodes of Adolescence last night and the final one this morning. Some outstanding performances.
Just watched the first episode of this & yes, outstanding stuff. The whole one take thing I thought might have been gimmicky, instead it adds to uncomfortable realism of the whole thing.

Just did what everyone else has and binged Adolescence in one sitting.

Excellent until the last twenty minutes when it just hits you over the head with the message with no subtlety whatsoever.

Especially offensive considering that final segment takes place in such a hideous LIVE LAUGH LOVE bedroom.

What did you think? I found it such a disturbing watch. It all felt so realistic, and the acting was outstanding. I really couldn’t help putting myself in that families shoes. :(

Gripped from start to finish

The acting was exceptional. Episode 3 was the best for me

Can't believe this is the first thread about it. Sensational show from beginning to end - watched it all last weekend.

Off the back of this there is this pdf of understanding emojis being sent round to parents;

All this time I thought my dear little Sally was simply swapping peach and aubergine recipes with her friends :(

To make matters worse, Little Sally is FOND OF LEATHER.

Halfway through.

I thought the first episode was excellent, if very difficult to watch and with some highly suspect timings. I appreciate they were kind of bound by the ’filmed in real time’ angle, but it really threw me every time they mentioned that only about 25 minutes had passed for a process which would take hours if not days in real life.

Second episode I found actively poor. I get that it’s tough to write kids convincingly, but some of the dialogue, my God! I think some of the actors playing the teachers actually handled it worse than the juvenile performers.

Will persevere as there’s definitely a lot of promise, and Graham and the main kid were fantastic in E1.

Episode 3 is easily the best episode

Yes, the second one is quite ‘very special teenage pregnancy episode of Grange Hill’ isn’t it

I watched E1 last week and that was really quite a heavy watch. Managed to get through the rest all last night.

Yes, E3 is the definite award contender. I think that they kind of mis-represented what it actually is though, as it only really lightly touched upon the “motive”, being mentioned briefly in episodes 2&3. That was kind of what interested me, but it wasn’t about that at all.

It does the cool drone shot, which is it's saving grace.

Although it was probably a more realistic portrayal of a secondary school than I've seen before.

I hate it when some internet cunt turns up late to a hit series and poopoos it, but I burned through this today and didn't really get it?

For me: eps 1 and 2 = actively poor; eps 3 and 4 = way better + quite good.

In the first two I found the dialogue shit and that characters often didn't act believably. And thanks to the one shot nature (which I found impressive) those eps contained quite a lot of dull bits that wouldn't normally make it into a TV drama/film for QUITE GOOD REASON.

I thought eps 3 and 4 were a big step up and far less boring. I agree that ep 3 was the standout. Princess Anne and the little boy were great.

Overall I like that it delved into the manosphere/incel culture (and that it namechecked Andrew Tate specifically), but I'm frustrated it did so little with it. I've not learnt anything new, and I never fully believed the role it played in the (underdeveloped) murder story. I think it would have been good to have seen some of the dead girl's family. A fifth ep at the court for the verdict could have done well to crown it.

Just finished episode four. All of the awards for Stephen Graham.

I agree the dialogue got distractingly on the nose in the final couple of scenes, but on the whole I thought it was the best, most affecting episode. I can see why people liked 3 so much, and it was very good, but I found it a touch over-written in places, and the officer who kept doing his little quips every time Princess Anne left the interview room was just dreadful.
