Betty Boo is BACK!

I haven't delved into the album yet but a bit fucking rude not to have this as the main version:

She said the single was planned in advance and she’d loved to have used the Sophie version but SEB was committed to doing something else at the planned single release period which is why the single and main album versions are the SEB free ones.

Scary to think SEB was modelling homemade snoods on Blue Peter at the start of Betty’s career.

My bundle arrived today which prompted me to check the midweeks and she is #13. Based on Darren Hayes last week she’ll likely miss the top 40 but sure it’s lovely she’s back.

I can't find sales figures either for her this week, or Darren Hayes at the same point last week, but it seems that sales generally are up - the #10 in the Monday midweek this week is only 6 sales lower than the #5 last week. So hopefully she's only narrowly behind that. Still think top 40 is probably pushing it though.

Already down to #27 in the latest midweeks - Darren Hayes was #40 at the same point last week.

Ended up #45 overall, #12 on sales. Shame there’s so many greatest hits in the top 40 but I assume she was happy enough with the preorder campaign as she’s already started writing and recording for the next album.

I was hoping she'd sneak top ten on sales and trying not to focus on the overall chart.

There are some fun pop moments here but the non-stop positivity and good vibes are a bit exhausting by the end. It would be good if Betty could sharpen her tongue just a bit next time.

It completely passed me by that Boo is back….again with a new single ‘One Day’ and a new album on August 30th ‘Rip Up The Rulebook’.

Oh dear - she can't be getting much traction then, if a bunch of ageing homos like us has let it go unnoticed :(

The physicals are delayed to October but the digital came out today. I’ve played it once while working and it’s pretty much as you were with ‘Boomerang’ meaning if you liked that you’ve no need of this but also if you liked that there’s no reason not to listen to this either. Kind of good but inessential. I was trying to remember where I heard lots of the samples from before in several of the songs rather than just listen.

I think the two singles were a level below the last album. From a quick skim through Barbarella and Spotlight have promise, but not sold for the most part.

No shade towards lovely Betty, but pubs feels realistic.

I once saw Sophie B Hawkins playing to about 15 people upstairs at one of the diveiest pubs in Leeds, which actually closed just a few months later. She's playing a larger venue here in June so I assume bad management was at fault for that. She styled it out as gracefully as she could, though it was pretty funny watching her writhing around the floor to 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover' about a foot away from me on a visibly stained carpet.

They're all around 250ish capacity venues, no? Which, yes, appears about right. She's not going to do manage much more than that at this point, and there's obviously money enough in it, so good for her.

You know I just MIGHT go to this. LADY A is quite keen to make a PILGRIMAGE and God knows I haven't been OUT OF THE HOUSE for YEARS
