Finland 2025: Erika Vikman - ICH KOMME

It's worth adding that Erika would have won 2020 at a canter on the 25/75 jury/televote split last time around. Puppy's probably in the box seat as it stands, but it's not necessarily completely over if she's got something that gets as much of a public response as Cicciolina did.

(although yes, it isn't helpful that so far as I recall in 2020, Erika didn't have a metal novelty rival)

It’s going to be fucking huge on Tiktok and the likes as well isn’t it.

No Rules! was actually a relative FLOP last time so it's not even logic to think they need to fill some "haha a song for lols" bracket every time. The jury/televote split last year meant it came last with juries but absolutely bossed the public vote for it to be worthless anyway. URGH, get it RIGHT please.

Is the Erika Vikman song the last one and is it out today please? I like to listen all together when they're all out. :)

We have two more to go. Erika's is out tomorrow night.

(it feels like it'd be a BIT MUCH going down a certain avenue three times in a row with that. Not to say Cha Cha Cha was straight up novelty - so much of its genius was that it wasn't - but going with Puppy really would make it look a lot more like that was what it mostly was.)
Yes, I don't hate 'Puppy' by any means (yet), but they do need to start showing some variety please.

I do much prefer it to Tommy Cash though it has to be said, Finland are winning the novelty wars.

I have nothing fundamentally against novelty entries (or "musical diversity" as the Gen Z Twitter lot insist on calling it) but can we just have ONE at some point that isn't just brainless music for drunk straight men by other straight men?

I don’t mind novelty if it has a POINT OF VIEW like DANCING LASHA TUMBAI, but this is just brainless lowest common denominator slop for the cocomelon generation and chronically un-aspirational heterosexuals.

It would be entirely possible to argue that The Code, Europapa and We Will Rave were predominantly gay targeted novelty entries from last year alone. I’m aware that most of you don’t want at least two of those, but suggesting that all the novelty songs are Kaarija influenced metal just isn’t true.

I'd say one of those was novelty at best, but also all three were clearly songs first rather than jokes.

As someone who's normally all over this sort of thing and most Eurovision metal, this is abysmal. The lyrics give me the ick.

I haven’t actually listened to the Puppy song yet and probably won’t until it wins, but I’m not sure any of the songs which has made the contest over the past few years were primarily jokes, even ‘No Rules’, which I could very much have done without.

That's not what I said.
It wasn’t just you and your actual words were ‘brainless music for drunk straight men by other straight men’. Maybe there’s a different class of entries which you were referring to with that.

Puppy is an order of magnitude more "jokey" than New Rules. There is no effort at all in the lyrics to the point where even I, someone who has no regard at all for lyrics, find them distracting.

Well what I'm definitely not saying is that (for example) Puppy, Europapa, Trenulețul, Eat Your Salad and No Rules a) all sound the same or b) are all somehow Käärijä's fault, which I appreciate is what a not-insignificant portion of fans would claim.

I wouldn't even say they're all "joke" entries if we're using that shorthand in its most literal sense as a catch-all term, but I don't think it's ENTIRELY inaccurate to say that they're all delivered with an element of tongue in cheek, even Cha Cha Cha, which I know some people CERTAINLY don't want to acknowledge.

I suppose what I am saying is that there is a certain vibe in terms of how they're received (lolz bantz) and the flavour of novelty entry that seems to be the only one to get cut through.

I think the last one that could be considered novelty that didn't fall under my admittedly rather crass description would probably be In Corpore Sano. Again, a clever entry that wasn't a "joke" at all, but you'd have to be the most po-faced defender of it not to acknowledge that it was delivered with a sense of humour, and that most casuals did see it on surface level as at least a bit humorous.

Just listened to Puppy and I honestly don’t think there’s anything to worry about. It’s definitely attention-grabbing and will have its fans, but unlike Cha Cha Cha it’s not actually musically very good. The “when I call your name” refrain isn’t strong enough and the whole thing just descends into noise by the end; this won’t get enough mass appeal to be a threat.

Pretty good but filler.

And another female pop number to take votes from Erika. :zombie:

God I love Finnish pop music so much. Why do they have to waste all this good stuff and send loud novelty things in its place?

PUPPPAAAAAAYYYYYYY

I wonder what the opening numbers were last year? In the end Sara Siipola had way more streams than Windows95man even though the latter was chosen. Good numbers for Nelli and Viivi but they have a large fanbase to begin with.

12 hours until music is saved by this glorious woman

I’m usually not excited for new Erika Vikman music as her back cat is not all that but I’m curious to hear if she has been able to produce another Eurovision banger. :disco:

I have entered the pre-season chat.

Puppy is a diabolical novelty shite, with all the freshness of white dog shit or Sinead O Connor.

13/10

OH MY GOD you guys I'm not usually a fan of Erika Vikman but the song is produced by Chisu and her husband. It's going to be GOOD.
