OT: What are people’s thoughts on the Club World Cup this year? It’s obviously being pushed super hard with the new expanded edition and my work is basically revolving around it for the next six months, but I’ve not heard anyone in “real” life even mention it. I’m curious- are people here actually interested?

I’m also debating moving to the US for a month for it, but we’ll see.

They’re pushing it hard in the Middle East but I’m not seeing much interest. The locations are a bit random as well. Let’s all pay thousands to travel to Ohio and Tennessee and watch football…

Not remotely interested in the Club World Cup. It doesn’t help that they’ve managed to end up with one English representative who are shit this year and the other who have been shit for the last three years.

This is interesting. I feel in a bit of a bubble about it because the rollout is so huge, it feels a lot bigger, but, as I said, the awareness or interest generally just doesn’t seem there. Yet, at least. It being snuck away on a PPV channel isn’t going to help either.

The USSF will probably push it to the hilt and banking on it elevating the sport for the next generation of Americans, but the World Cup hasn't done that the last few decades so I don't see how this will be any different, or even as big. I've been in the US during a couple of the world cups and it feels really big at the time, suddenly everyone becomes a soccer fan, and then they instantly forget about it as soon as it's over.

I've only heard the Club World Cup spoke about in the context of conversations regarding the sheer greed of the powers that be and footballers playing too minutes and being run into the ground because of it.

Just played my first game of football tonight since maybe 1998. Got a massive blood blister, but hoping it's fine for running about tomorrow.

That just gives them more fire power for the league, to be honest. I’ll be fucked off if we end up with a City / United final AGAIN.

Oh you know Madrid are winning this again now :D

Just nudging their GD to 0, which helps when they're fighting Aston Villa and Brentford for 10th place.

Palace were brilliant in that second half, and Villa weren't bad. the better team ran away with it.

just checked the table and they're... 12th. classic Palace :disco:

Given that they’ve spent the past month whining about being bankrupt and making office staff redundant so that they won’t run out of money by the end of the year, I’d love to know how they plan to pay for it.

I think they've talked a lot about PRIVATE INVESTMENT and since it's a regeneration project (up to 90k jobs created and 17k new homes built) there'll probably be plentiful local money too.

the stadium design does look stunning. fuckers.

They’ve been begging for public money. Honestly I fucking hate it. The area around Wembley is like this and is souless, same for the Etihad. AMF

Mancheter can add a million seats if it likes, it will never look as BEAUTIFUL as Bramley Moore :disco:

As long as we finish off with the league then FINE

My best mate is a Newcastle fan & I really can't BEGRUDGE him this trophy after a 56 year wait
