Gene Hackman (and wife and dog) DEAD (1 Viewer)

His wife was a lot younger than him too. It sounds like a suicide pact.

We haven’t HAD midnight on Thursday 27th…….

🕵️‍♂️

The question now remains, who is getting the coveted final spot at the Oscars In Memoriam segment on Sunday? Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones, or now a late contender with Hackman?

They have similar records, but Smith deserves the pimp spot by virtue of having one more supporting nomination.

(Jones only has 1 best nomination; and a fake
Oscar)

Wow. This is awful. He was immensely talented and entertaining. My first time watching him was in LA Confidential. Loved him ever since.

Edit: he wasn't in LA Confidential.

Oh, this is sad. :( Not just because of the nature of the deaths (the PUP as well? ugh!!). Hackman may not have been as big a star as the other brooding New Hollywood icons (Nicholson, De Niro, Pacino, et al.), but he could hold his own against all of them. People will point to the Oscars for The French Connection (meh) and Unforgiven (less meh, and at least he's great in it), but I suspect it's his differing contributions to The Conversation and The Royal Tenenbaums that'll endure best and speak to the breadth of his talent: brilliantly unravelling the turmoil of a complex character in the Coppola, and wryly shading in the quirks of a less complex character amidst Anderson's shtick. I also really liked him in the forgotten Scarecrow - one of those seemingly unremarkable 70s indie dramas that's boosted by great perfs (young Al Pacino is a superb co-star). It's Pacino who has the scene which really stuck with me, but I recall identifying strongly with both these drifters-tryna-make-good and Hackman did a wonderful job of gradually unmasking the human behind all the misplaced machismo. What a great career, and 95 is a good innings. Salute.

(...but again, why the PUP!!! :( )

if you're going the suicide pact route just take the poor dog to the shelter? it did NOT sign up for this.

Does it look like a suicide pact? She appears to have had pills nearby but it doesn’t seem clear cut - they seem to think he may have fallen suddenly. It’s utterly random.

There were two other dogs found alive, so if it was a suicide pact then you'd have to wonder why that one specifically

Maybe the other two dogs were also involved in the suicide pact but chickened out.

I am wondering, did she kill him and then take her own life (was that one dog just stuck there and unable to get out)? The tribute from his children doesn’t mention her at all.

Oh shut me up it does :D

Albeit just passing mention…👀

He was in a room near the kitchen and she was in a bathroom with pills around her, and the dog was in a closet? How bizarre.

My current theory is that the wife died in a freak accident - either collapsed or the heater fell on her head (although apparently no obvious signs of injury). Dog ate the pills nearby and died. Gene Hackman found his wife dead and ran for help but fell, then died from the fall a few days later.
