With country influence coming back with a vengeance this year in pop music, I feel like this would be even a bigger hit today. Still sounds fresh. Her last major hit in the States peaking at #3, although it narrowly missed the UK top ten.

It’s fine but I prefer when she brings harder or chunkier beats than these more shimmery efforts.

This has been going viral on TikTok the past few weeks, and has now been added to some good playlists and made a bunch of the Spotify viral charts. It used to get around 10,000 streams a day, but yesterday got 227,000.

Deservedly so, but great to see given she doesn’t have a strong presence.

Of all the Janet hits, what a random one to get a revival!

No idea why this is supposedly trending. I had to search for it on TikTok and came up with a bunch of randoms in their 30s ranting about this song not being a hit because of the Superbowl. Are people really incapable of using Google? And people who were old enough to remember too.

This got just shy of 500k on Monday, which is pretty huge - sitting at around 50 times what it used to get. Be interesting to see if it keeps going. It’s mainly the anglophone countries (US/Canada/UK/Ireland/Australia and NZ), so if it does it may start to enter some of the daily charts soon.

not those charts being far more interesting than THE Billboard chart featuring hot hits like Lose Control and Espresso.

I’d love to see this translate into overall streaming success for her. Her numbers are surprisingly low compared to her contemporaries, although I’m sure that’s due to limited global success than lack of US streams.

I blame GLOBAL STAR Eric West for her lack of streams

it has to be both. let's face it she was a huge GLOBAL star for moments in her career at least (mid 90s) - her numbers are absolutely terrible for a legend of her stature, there's no two ways about it.

it can only because she's been dormant for a decade as an artist making music and has done very little for her legacy other than the never ending tours and jancellations.

I think it's also because she doesn't have that era-defining classic in the way some of the other big artists of that time do. There isn't a single Janet song I could think of as being overplayed or a staple on retro radio.

Yeah, Together Again aside I’d agree, and that probably only feels as big these days due to the age I was when it first came out.

Her playlisting is awful too, which I guess goes in hand with her/her team not caring as much or putting effort in to build a streaming prescence.

But is it really? I agree it's probably her best remembered hit (over here at least), but does it get much airplay and could the general public hum it or remember it if asked? I would wager not...
Same. It’s probably more a case of someone hearing it these days and going “Oh yeeeah, I’d forgotten about that one”. Don’t think anyone would do that with Kylie’s CGYOOMH.

If Kylies was just called ‘Outta My Head’ I’d expect a lot more people wouldn’t recall it from title alone… and if Janft’s was called ‘Dream About Us Together Again’ more would

Kylie's would actually be better known if it was the "La La La" song, which is what the US basically knows her for.

And ZERO people are getting "Dream About Us Together Again". It's not even the chorus/ main hook.

Surely they are wanting the old songs to transfer over to a new generation in which I would argue neither Torn or Together Again have. I could easily hum them both on a whim but I doubt my children could.

Id say Torn probably is pretty well known? I don’t think most people know who it’s by, but it’s around one billion on Spotify just as a gauge which is pretty huge for a 90s track.

everyone knows Torn. maybe some teenagers don't but for a 90s hit it has about as much recognition as anything else you could name surely, this side of Wannabe or Wonderwall

Janet is up 26 to #151 on US Spotify and enters UK and NZ top 200’s today.

Still so weird for it to be this song, but totally here for it actually charting again :disco:
