First proper episode out today.

If you could plan your perfect death, what would you do?
If you were getting married you’d consult a wedding planner, who takes you through everything from what music you're walking into, what flowers to buy and who you’re going to invite.
Now change the word “wedding” to “funeral”...
Kathy Burke is the host of the brand new podcast, ‘Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wake’, where she chats to her famous friends about their fantasy funeral.
How do they want to die?
Where are they going next?
And who gets their prized possessions?
It will be a hilarious, irreverent, dark and sometimes moving podcast with guests from the world of comedy, TV film and celebrity. From Dawn French to Diane Morgan, Jamali Maddix to James Acaster, our guests will see their death brought to life as they plan their final day from dawn to dusk and into the afterlife.

First guest - Dawn French.

That's an impressive list of guests, and I imagine she will get a lot more if the run continues. Pretty much everyone loves her.

My Acaster alarm went off...I do love Jamali Maddix too.

Did she and James Dreyfuss fall out then? I know he's become a bit of a right wing freak, but they seemed pretty close in the GGG years.

Good interview with Kathy here, including the reveal that she came very close to making a suicide attempt a few years ago. Luckily she seems to be in a better place now.

The guest on this week’s episode is the canonically evil ANTONY COTTON, who Kathy seems to be good friends with.

They’re quite funny together, but between him and James Dreyfuss she really has fuck awful taste in gay pals :D

She's not a friend of Dreyfus now, is she?

I don't particularly like Cotton, but I've no idea who he is as a person.

I’m sure he frequently pops up in all those online threads about people having bad experiences with rude celebs.

Although as I’m listening he’s talking at length about the support work he does with mental health in the armed forces, so maybe I’ve pre-judged too harshly.

To be honest I find the format of this show a little tiring, and only listen to it if it's someone I'm really interested in.

Although as she is Kathy Fucking Burke, she does have great guests for the most part. A friend told me the Fern Brady episode is particularly good, so I'll have to give that a listen.

It can definitely be hit or miss depending on who’s on.

I’ve never knowingly watched anything he’s been in, but Danny Dyer was one of my favourites. The reveal that his sexual awakening was the Fat Slags from Viz is probably the hardest I’ve laughed at a podcast since the glory days of My Dad Wrote a Porno. :D

On the flip side Michelle Visage was one of the worst. She took it entirely too seriously and kept going off on tangeants about all her usual self help woo woo.

I'd recommend avoiding Visage's BBC podcast Rule Breakers. Some really great guests, but verging on Ricky Martin levels of mumbo jumbo and self help platitudes in places.

I've just looked at Rule Breakers on BBC Sounds to see if there are any guests I've missed who I may check out, and the first title make my arse clench. 'RuPaul: Finding your intuitive power and getting out of your own way' :zombie:

The new host will need to be pretty good. I don't think the format is that great - it needs the combination of Kathy and a good guest to work. For quite some time now I only choose to listen if the guest interests me.

As complimentary as she was about the producers, I wonder if the way they've obviously foisted those Pink Ladies apple adverts onto the main show has pissed her off?

I'm used to with ads being woven through a podcast, but the way it actively impacted the format felt really off to me.

In true Kathy-style, she shared a foul-mouthed farewell to her loyal listeners, saying:

"So, lovely listeners, my darling deathlings. You know, I’m an old fk now, we all know that. Anyway, the thing is, my darlings, I’ve decided I have to say goodbye to this fantastic podcast. And the reason is […] I’ve loved this job so much. But I said to [Exec Producer] Big God Ollie when he first asked me to do the gig, “Look, you’ll probably get about twenty episodes out of me, and I’ve ended up doing over 100. Now there is proof that I have really fking enjoyed myself.”

“I’ve loved meeting all the guests. I’ve loved having my friends in real life on the show. The live show was just fantastic – a great night with the marvellous Tom Davis. But I’ve been doing it for two years. I’m a gypsy, darling. I’m a gypsy at heart. I need to do other things. I need to be creative and stop reading other people’s f**king memoirs.

“So, if you don’t mind, I’m just gonna have a little break. Hopefully, I might be back. Who knows? One day in the future. But, thank you all very, very much for welcoming me with open arms into the podcast world.”
